We’d Definitely Wear These Chairs: Christian Louboutin X Pierre Yovanovitch

May 10, 2024

Ready to take fashion from your feet to your foyer? Pierre Yovanovitch has collaborated with longtime friend, and legendary fashion designer, Christian Louboutin to create a series of limited and open edition chairs inspired by historical muses, mythology, and film. The collection incorporates the work of a selection of best-in-class, historic French artisans to meticulously craft each piece. There are nine one-of-a-kind works which are inspired by characters ranging from Queen Nefertari to Dita von Teese. As a nod to Christian Louboutin’s renowned Nudes shoe collection, the collaboration also features an open edition “Simply Nude” series of five female-inspired silhouettes offered in a variety of wood colors meant to reflect feminine strength and unique beauty. All of the works feature Louboutin’s iconic, red-soled heels as the feet of the chair.

“This collection is as much of an homage to French savoir-faire as it is to feminine beauty,” states Pierre. As a close friend and respected visionary, it was a dream to be able to collaborate with Christian on this project. Drawing from our shared affinity for haute-couture artisanry, we enlisted a roster of classically trained artists to meticulously bring these diverse female characters to life. The result is an imaginative ode to women as told through French craftsmanship.” The collection offers nine one-of-a-kind works.

“It was Pierre who came up with the idea for this collaboration. We had already worked together on some of my interior design projects,” states Christian. “To celebrate his iconic Clam chair, I summoned pharaonic goddesses, queens of the stage or queens of the night, chimeras, and heroines of cinema… All these feminine figures who have accompanied and inspired me throughout my career, and who are found, thanks to exceptional embroiderers, weavers, and cabinetmakers, on the various ornaments of these nine chairs. Pierre also drew inspiration from my work around the Nudes, shoes that take on the different skin tones, from the lightest to the darkest.”

In addition to these limited-edition pieces, there will also be an open edition “Simply Nude” series which references Christian Louboutin’s Nudes collection which originally launched in 2013 with five shades of skin tones. The chairs are offered in a variety of frame options from bleached oak, natural oak, patinated oak to light and dark-stained mahogany oak, reflecting feminine strength and unique beauty. The “Simply Nudes” will also be available in an array of upholstery colors and, as a nod to Louboutin’s iconic shoe design, the base of the chairs features the brand’s iconic red-soled heel.

To craft these works, Louboutin and Yovanovitch commissioned a roster of world-class French artisans, including: embroiderers Maisons Vermont, Lesage Interieurs and Montox; Atelier Jouffre and Hugo Delavelle for their furniture artisanry; leatherwork by Audrey Ludwig and painter Christophe Martin, to name a few.

The new collection is now on view to the public at Pierre Yovanovitch Mobilier in New York and is also available for purchase globally via pierreyovanovitch.com. Talk about stylish seating! —Vita Daily
