The Best Bridal Nail Tips From A Pro

Wedding season is here, and nails are an integral part of any bridal look. We discussed the most popular shades, tips, and trends with one of Vancouver’s top nail artists, Christina Truong, who also happens to be a bride this year. What are the top colours you recommend for bridal nails?

I always recommend nude, soft pinks, and blush tones, which is what most brides request. My top colours are Baby Take a Vow, Bubble Bath, and Put it in Neutral by OPI. The next recommendation I’ll make is ivory shades, like Funny Bunny, Chiffon My Mind, or Kyoto Pearl by OPI. A lot of brides request French nails as well. I always recommend doing a soft pink for the base, but nothing too opaque to maintain a natural look.

When should the bride get her nails done before the wedding?

I would say three to four days before the wedding. This timing ensures the manicure is fresh while allowing any last-minute touch-ups if needed. It also minimizes the risk of chipping and damage. Be sure to get your nails done before a spray tan if you’re getting one!

What are some tips to maintain a flawless manicure/ pedicure before the wedding?

If you must do any household chores or DIY tasks before the wedding, be sure to wear gloves! Doing dishes is a real nail-killer, so avoid that chore if you can. Keep your hands, cuticles, and heels moisturized in the days leading up to the event.

If the bride wants something a little different for her wedding nails, what would you recommend?

I have seen a lot of soft metallics look really beautiful for bridal nails. The viral “Glazed Donut” look is a great choice, too. This is just a white chrome powder over Bubble Bath. Subtle designs including pearls, Swarovski crystals or small flowers will work as well. French ombré nails are also very bridal but unique.

Any shapes or colours that you advise against when doing bridal nails?

I wouldn’t recommend overly long nails because they can be very impractical on the wedding day and may not photograph well. I also wouldn’t suggest more trendy shapes like stiletto, because this likely won’t be in fashion for long. Usually when a bride asks for a bold colour, it is part of the wedding theme, which can be anything starting from a country club wedding theme to a loft/industrial type of wedding venue theme, but I would make sure the bride is absolutely positive this is what she wants before doing it!
