Rethinking Pink: Celebrating Rosé Day Right

June 5, 2024

Rosé Day is June 8. Want to try something you may not have before? Here are nine to get you rethinking your favourite pink drink. —Catherine Dunwoody

One of the newest rosé-releases from B.C.’s CedarCreek Estate Winery is the 2023 Platinum Naramata Bench Pinot Noir Rosé. All that dreamy Okanagan sunshine contributed to the results, a rosé that is crisp, clean and with notes of red berries. No need to cellar a bottle of this beauty, sip it now and celebrate.

New Zealand’s Kim Crawford Rosé is made from Malbec and Merlot and perfect with summer dishes like Nicoise salads, grilled vegetables, and salmon. A vibrant pink and good value too.

Tormaresca Calafuria is a somewhat splurgy Italian rosé that is perfect for celebrating Rosé Day with style. From the Salento territory, this wine has hints of citrus, orange blossom, jasmine and holds up to grilled meats (hello Italian sausage) and a gorgeously presented show-off antipasto platter.

Solvero Rosé is made with 100 per cent pinot noir grapes from the winery in Summerland, BC; has the prettiest pale pink hue and hints of fresh berries. Gorgeous paired with seared tuna, grilled pork tenderloin or a fresh caprese salad.

Haywire Gamay Rosé 2022 has a real complexity, so don’t let the delicate colour fool you. Berry notes play with a creamy mouthfeel, a bit of acidity, and that all pairs well with Pad Thai or spicy Asian dishes.

Red Barn at Jagged Rock sits on Oliver’s Black Sage Bench, and this 2023 rosé, which is getting a lot of buzz lately, is called Transfiction. Made from Gamay grapes and recently dropped, try this BC beauty soon.

Saintly The Good Rose is like any Canadian; vibrant, refreshing and easy to get along with. This pairs with a perfectly designed barbecued burger, mussels and frites, and great conversation.

Josh Cellars Rosé is a friendly Californian with peach and strawberry notes plus a dry finish. Pair it with any summer salad or cedar planked salmon.

Mission Hill Reserve Rosé Organic has summertime hints of fresh watermelon and rhubarb, and is a solid choice from this BC winery, every time.
