Soap made by hippies for hippies?! That’s what Lush is rolling out. Inspired by the punk spiritualism of visual artist and Honorary Bard Jamie Reid and the brand’s shared love of the ancient ways, this new range features soaps that celebrate holy festivals from the Druidic calendar, each one filled with sacred ingredients.
Soap Art, inspired by the radical protest artist Jamie Reid, honors Reid’s legacy, his passion for Druidry, and the memory of Simon Emmerson, Lush’s music director and a fellow Druid, who passed away in 2023. Jamie, renowned for his iconic artwork for the Sex Pistols’ “God Save the Queen,” pushed boundaries in the art world much like Lush does in the cosmetics industry.
Lush co-founder Mo Constantine and her son Jack have translated Reid’s artistic vision into four beautifully crafted soaps, each representing a solar observance in the Druidic calendar. These soaps are not just products; they are pieces of art that tell a story, celebrating our connection to the Earth and the cycles of nature.
The collection will debut with Alban Hefin (Summer Solstice) on June 20 in the U.S. and Canada. All four will be available online and in 25 of Lush’s anchor shops around the world. Every bar of Soap Art is made with a vegetarian base of coconut and rapeseed oil, free from palm oil and packaging. The intricate designs are created using various handmade techniques, and the ingredients, infusions, fragrances, and colors are chosen to reflect the artistry they emulate. Alban Eilir (Spring Equinox)
Unleash the primal energy of spring with this soap that channels the Druidic reverence for the rebirth of nature at the spring equinox. Relax and allow suds of coltsfoot infusion, oat flour, and lemon to wash over you with the essence of wisdom and enlightenment, cleansing the mind and balancing the skin.
Alban Hefin (Summer Solstice)
This soap is a Druidic talisman and a punk rock artifact, infused with wild strawberries, blackberry leaf, bergamot, and sweet mallow, connecting you to the sun’s power and the art of rebellion.
Alban Elfed (Autumn Equinox)
As the power of the sun wanes, we celebrate the fruits of the harvest that will feed skin and soul in the cold, dark days to come. This sweet apple juice soap is made with sacred oakwood, finely blended portobello mushrooms, and simmered hazelnuts.
Alban Arthan (Winter Solstice)
More than a seasonal cleanser, this soap is an act of rebellion against the darkness and a piece of art that weaves together the revolutionary spirit of Jamie Reid’s artistry and the deep spiritual resonance of the winter solstice. This soap weaves olive oil, fir needle perfume, chamomile, barley, and watercress into a transformative experience for both body and spirit.
