Kick Off Summer With A Coffee (Win!)

That’s why we’re buzzing about Nespresso’s launch of its Unforgettable Mediterranean Summer collection with refreshing iced coffee drinks—starring a new limited-edition flavour—and exquisitely designed accessories. Complete with sophisticated recipes made to evoke sun-drenched days, the collection comes in a mood-boosting colour palette thoughtfully selected in collaboration with Pantone. We chatted with Frederic Pasquier, Nespresso’s marketing VP in Canada, to learn more. —Vita Daily

The new summer collection is inspired by Mediterranean destinations. Can you share a personal favorite Mediterranean spot that influenced the collection’s design or flavors, and what special memories you associate with it?  

Nespresso’s summer collection, inspired by lavish destinations, brings back many memories, and I think it does for many people, as we all remember those cherished times we spent with our families, enjoying every minute outdoors in the sun, making the most of the longer, warmer days. For me, this summer campaign brings me back to the time I could spend with my grand-parents and my brothers in the south of France, cooling down with a fresh drink or an ice-cream on the terrasse or by the pool having the feeling time was stopping.  

As the collection was crafted to capture the essence of a dream holiday, it really hits the mark. The smell, the taste, and even the visual appeal all transports me back to those dear memories.

Working with Pantone to create a mood-boosting colour palette sounds exciting! How did the collaboration process go, and do you have a favourite colour from the collection that you think perfectly captures the essence of a Mediterranean summer? 

Nespresso collaborated closely with Pantone to select the colour palette that would best reflect our “Unforgettable Summer Memories” theme and transport our consumers into the sophisticated lifestyle of 1970s Saint-Tropez or the Italian Dolce Vita. The hero Mandarin Orange shade is reminiscent of beachside parasols, while Blue Lolite takes after Greece’s signature hue.

The Mandarin Orange shade is undoubtedly my favourite, as it evokes memories of long, sun-drenched days at the beach, bringing forth the vibrant energy and warmth of sunny days.

The Sunny Almond Vanilla and Coconut Flavour Over Ice coffees sound delicious. What was the inspiration behind these specific flavours, and how do they evoke the feeling of a Mediterranean holiday?

These coffees, inspired by Mediterranean’s towns, are designed to be enjoyed over ice. Each sip becomes a voyage and creates a lasting memory, from a refreshing Greek Freddo Cappuccino to the ever-stylish Italian Caffè Shakerato.

This year, we are excited to launch the limited-edition Sunny Almond Vanilla Flavour Over Ice. Made for warm summer days, this indulgent flavour is smooth and refreshing with a light-roast blend of Arabicas, perfect to cruise into a Mediterranean summer. You’ll also love the refreshing exotic taste of Coconut Flavour Over Ice, as the coconut flavour blends beautifully into the roasted, caramelly notes of a Latin American Arabica espresso.

The summer-ready machine and accessories are decorated with Pantone’s mood-boosting colours and the iconic Pantone chip. Can you tell us about any unique design elements or features that make these items stand out and enhance the overall summer experience?

What truly sets these items apart is the unique sensorial colour palette co-curated with colour experts at Pantone that shines through in various elements of our collection. The limited-edition Vertuo Pop machine and the Aeroccino 3 milk frother boast the vibrant Mandarin Orange shade, while Habanero Gold, Muskmelon, Aquarelle and Blue Lolite extends to accessories like the coffee mug and travel mugs. Even the packaging for our new Sunny Almond Vanilla Flavor Over Ice for Vertuo was co-designed with Pantone to perfectly encapsulate our ‘Unforgettable Summer Memories’ theme.

Take the time to savour each sip slowly, just as you would savour every moment of a Mediterranean escape.

One of my favorite coffees over ice is the Delightful Almond Vanilla Frost, a refreshing and indulgent beverage that combines creamy foam, nutty flavors, and a touch of sweetness for a truly satisfying treat.

DELIGHTFUL ALMOND VANILLA FROST

INGREDIENTS

• Ice Cubes: 2 (60g)​
• Honey: 15g​ 1.5%
• Cold Milk: 120ml ​
• Sunny Almond Vanilla Over Ice: 1 capsule​
• Toppings: Slivered almonds, lemon zest and honey​

STEPS

1. Into a small Barista Recipe Glass, place 2 ice cubes (of 30g each), and add 10g of honey.​
2. Then, into your Aeroccino, pour 120ml of 1.5% cold milk, close the lid and press the cold foam button.​
3. Once ready, pour the cold milk foam into the Barista Recipe Glass, over the ice and honey, making sure to leave a little bit of room at the top.​
4. Extract 80ml of Sunny Almond Vanilla Over Ice into the glass.
5. Top it off with slivered almond pieces, lemon zest and for a little extra sweetness, a drizzle of honey.​ ​
