How To Make A Starbucks Cake Pop At Home

September 9, 2024

Here’s a simplified version of how you can make Starbucks-inspired cake pops at home:

Ingredients:

  • For the cake:
    • 1 box of vanilla or chocolate cake mix (or homemade cake if you prefer)
    • Ingredients as listed on the cake mix box (usually eggs, oil, and water)
  • For the frosting:
    • 1/2 cup of vanilla frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • For the coating:
    • 2 cups of candy melts (any color, but Starbucks typically uses pink or white)
    • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (to make the candy melts smoother)
    • Sprinkles (optional)
  • Additional tools:
    • Cake pop sticks
    • Styrofoam block or a stand for drying the cake pops

Instructions:

Step 1: Bake the Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to the temperature specified on the cake mix box or your homemade cake recipe.
  2. Prepare the cake mix according to the instructions and bake it in a cake pan.
  3. Once baked, let the cake cool completely.

Step 2: Crumble the Cake

  1. After the cake has cooled, crumble it into fine crumbs in a large bowl using your hands or a fork.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of frosting to the crumbled cake and mix well. The texture should be like cookie dough, where it holds together when pressed.

Step 3: Form the Cake Balls

  1. Roll the cake and frosting mixture into small, evenly sized balls (about 1-1.5 inches in diameter).
  2. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate them for at least 1 hour or freeze for 20-30 minutes to firm up.

Step 4: Insert the Sticks

  1. Melt a small amount of the candy melts in the microwave. Dip the tip of each cake pop stick into the melted candy and then insert it into a cake ball (about halfway through the ball).
  2. Once all the sticks are inserted, place the cake pops back into the fridge for another 15-30 minutes to ensure they’re firm.

Step 5: Coat the Cake Pops

  1. Melt the rest of the candy melts in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until smooth. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to thin out the candy coating.
  2. Dip each cake pop into the melted candy coating, gently tapping the stick against the side of the bowl to remove excess.
  3. Before the coating hardens, you can add sprinkles if desired.

Step 6: Let Them Set

  1. Stick each cake pop into a styrofoam block or a stand to allow the coating to set without touching any surfaces.
  2. Once the coating has hardened, the cake pops are ready to serve!
