We chatted with Sophie Ohayon, Kamik’s senior director of brand experience, to learn more. —Vita Daily

Can you tell us more about the unique features and specificities of the Tundra collection, and what sets it apart from other outdoor footwear? 

The Tundra boots are perfect for the whole family, offering warmth and waterproof protection with a recycled liner that keeps feet cozy down to -40°C (adults) / -32°C (kids). Made in Canada, with sustainable materials like eco-friendly leather and featuring a grippy outsole for all terrains, they’re great for both city life and outdoor adventures. They are available in 3 colours, to stay warm, with style. Not only is this boot technically high-performing, as are all our SKUs, but it also has that je-ne-sais-quoi that makes it very contemporary. It’s neither a rain boot nor a traditional snow boot, but can be seen as a hybrid. You can imagine it as much for a walk in the snowy woods as over a pair of jeans or under a knitted skirt to go to the office and stay stylish. Flat boots are very in fashionable nowadays, and without being a fashion brand, Kamik has succeeded with the Tundra in offering a contemporary model that combines the practical with the pleasurable.

How has Kamik’s creative direction evolved over the years, and what are some of the brand’s key inspirations for the latest collections? 

Inspired by the elements, we continue to blend a 125-year heritage of crafting durable, quality footwear with sustainable practices. Our goal is to create accessible, stylish products that help families enjoy the outdoors, all year round! We are excited about our product development pipeline that will emphasis on creating more styles for outdoor living.

Sustainability is a growing focus in the fashion and outdoor industries—how is Kamik incorporating eco-friendly practices into the Tundra line? 

We’ve been pioneers in recycling rubber from almost the very beginning. For the Tundra line, we used recycled liners, sustainable leather, and recyclable rubber. We’re also part of groups promoting greener leather production and choose materials that minimize our environmental footprint.

What can you share about Kamik’s upcoming launches for Fall and Winter, and how will they build on the brand’s legacy while offering something new and creative? 

We’re introducing new styles that fit the needs for extreme winter conditions but also for softer winter, for both men and women – and certainly not forgetting our kids’ line – keeping them warm with fun new colours. We’re blending everyday fall footwear with true winter gear. We’re really looking forward to sharing our new collections that will not only focus on products to keep feet dry and warm for outdoor activities but also for everyday city life. With our next collection, which we’ll be launching in a few weeks’ time, we’re hoping to spring a surprise since we’ve decided to go where no one expects us. You’ll soon see, but we’ve decided to launch a line that’s urban, cool, contemporary, and colorful! And who knows, we might even be finalizing a collaboration with a Canadian artist! How does Kamik ensure that its footwear continues to meet the needs of consumers who require both performance and style in extreme conditions? 

We like to mix high-performance materials with great design—like waterproof rubber, warm liners, and comfy insoles. Everything is tested in real-world conditions, so our boots perform in harsh weather and look good for everyday wear. We understand our consumers’ needs because we design for them. I wish you could see our production plant in Montreal: our high-performance machines allow us to put our products to the test, to measure their resistance…. Durability and performance are the hallmarks of our brand. Our customers expect us to deliver, and it’s impossible for us to consider disappointing them for a single second!
