Basketball and fashion have always shared a natural synergy—just look at the way NBA tunnel walks have become high-fashion runways, or how streetwear brands like Off-White and Supreme frequently collaborate with athletes to create limited-edition drops. But when they come together with purpose, the impact is even greater.
Enter Canada Goose and Giants of Africa, a not-for-profit youth basketball organization founded by Toronto Raptors Vice-Chairman Masai Ujiri, teaming up for the second time—not just to create outerwear, but to build a movement that amplifies the dreams and resilience of young people through sport and community.
Building on their impactful first collaboration in 2021—which introduced a special-edition jacket that helped raise funds and awareness for youth development—this latest collection expands their partnership with a broader range of pieces that incorporate cultural symbolism and continue their commitment to empowering youth.
Titled Powerful Voices, this four-piece capsule draws inspiration from the Sauti Kuu basketball court in Alego, Kenya, celebrating the country’s vibrant culture while symbolizing the hopes and ambitions of African youth. The collection features an Insulated Bomber with a Giants of Africa patch on the arm, a Powerful Voices Hoodie with vibrant embroidery of Kenya’s map and the words “Dream Big,” Cargo Pants with African textile-inspired pocket detailing, and a cozy Arctic Toque with the Giants of Africa logo. Beyond fashion, this collection represents a movement that fosters opportunity, cultural pride, and unity through sport. In a powerful gesture, Canada Goose is donating 100% of the proceeds to Giants of Africa, reinforcing their shared commitment to youth empowerment.
Reflecting on the collection, Masai Ujiri highlighted the importance of designing pieces that celebrate Kenya’s rich cultural heritage while inspiring and uplifting the youth. He views this second collaboration as a powerful extension of their mission—leveraging basketball to unite communities and drive meaningful change worldwide.
Founded in 2003, Giants of Africa has grown into a leading organization dedicated to creating opportunities for young athletes across the continent. Its 100-court initiative is focused on building basketball courts across Africa, providing safe spaces for young people to develop their skills, build confidence, and foster community through sport. The Sauti Kuu court—meaning Powerful Voices in Kiswahili—served as the inspiration for this collection, a testament to the strength, resilience, and aspirations of youth in Kenya and beyond.
The Powerful Voices Collection is available online in Canada and the U.S., as well as in select Canada Goose stores, including CF Toronto Eaton Centre and Yorkdale Shopping Centre, with prices ranging from $295 to $995 CAD.
If you’re looking to elevate your streetwear game while backing a great cause, this collection is the perfect fit. Snag a piece, make a statement, and be part of something bigger—because looking good is even better when it does good too. ––Christina Armanious
