Traveling is a great way to broaden your horizons, but if you love working out, staying active on your trip can be tricky—especially when it comes to packing. You might not be sure what to bring, but packing smart will help you stay on track without overloading your luggage. Here’s a suggested packing list for staying active while traveling.
Equipment
The first type of ideal equipment to pack for physical workouts during a trip is resistance bands. They are lightweight, compact, and versatile for any type of strength training. For cardio training, a lightweight jump rope is a great option. If you practice yoga regularly, consider bringing a lightweight travel mat with you. A yoga towel can also be used to create a makeshift workout surface. Another convenient way to make use of ordinary objects for working out is using a Mobot water bottle, a stainless steel water bottle doubling as a foam roller, conveniently combining hydration and exercise equipment in one design.
Footwear
Since you are traveling and also would like to do physical activity, opt for shoes that can handle multiple activities, such as cross-training shoes. These are ideal for workouts like weightlifting, cardio, and short runs, as well as casual walking during travel. Ensure the shoes are comfortable for extended wear, with adequate support and cushioning. A heel drop between 4 and 10 mm is generally recommended for comfort and support.
For ease of travel, choose shoes that are lightweight and easy to pack. Slip-on designs or shoes with collapsible heels can be convenient for quick removal during security checks or relaxation. Most importantly, select shoes that are made from breathable materials to keep your feet cool and dry during both workouts and travel.
Clothing
Your workout attire during traveling should be versatile and include 1-2 pairs of quick-drying shorts or leggings, 2-3 moisture-absorbing tops with built-in bras (especially if you are traveling to a hot-weather destination), a couple of strappy sports bras and extra underwear for convenience. These pieces of clothing can be easily washed and dried in a hotel room if needed. If you don’t have leggings, bring a doubled number of yoga pants that can also serve as everyday leggings. Bring a few pairs of ankle socks and hiking socks if you plan to take part in outdoor activities.
Other items to consider
In addition to the items mentioned above, you might want to bring a few extras to enhance your workout experience. A fitness tracker can help you track your activity levels and keep you motivated. Pack some healthy snacks in your luggage to help you keep up energy levels, as your body will burn a lot of calories during both traveling and exercising. Consider bringing a small first aid kit filled with essentials, such as band-aids, elastic bandages or wraps, medical tape, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers, for minor emergencies.
By focusing on lightweight, versatile items and packing the right things, you can maintain your fitness routine even when traveling, allowing you to enjoy both exercising and exploring a new destination.
