Spring Forward: How Sundays’ Co-Founder Refreshes Her Home For The New Season

April 1, 2025

With spring in the air (and maybe a little snow still on the ground), there’s no better time to breathe new life into your space—and Sundays is here to help. Known for its effortlessly cool aesthetic and modern yet cozy pieces, the Canadian furniture brand is making it easier than ever to refresh your home with bold stripes, rich textures, and laid-back luxe vibes.

We caught up with Barbora Samieian, co-founder of Sundays, to chat about this season’s most exciting launches—including the return of their sell-out striped Movie Night Sofa, new limited-edition Field Stools, and artist collaborations that are bringing colour and creativity into homes across Canada. Whether you’re reimagining your living room or simply swapping in a few fresh touches, Barbora shares her top tips for creating a home that feels brand new, just in time for the season of renewal. —Noa Nichol

Spring is all about fresh starts—how do you personally like to refresh your home this time of year? What small changes can make the biggest difference? What advice would you give to someone who wants to make their home feel “new” for spring, without doing a complete redesign?

Lighter colours or a fun pattern like the striped Movie Night covers are great to swap in for the Spring if you have a slip covered sofa – it brings some flexibility. And have fun moving pieces around in your home – sometimes shifting a position of an occasional chair or the placement of an art piece can really impact home.

Stripes are having a big moment at Sundays this season, from the Movie Night Sofa to the Field Stool. What makes this pattern so timeless and versatile in interior design?

Stripes add a playfulness while remaining classic – we’ve loved integrating them into occasional chairs and sofas, and of course the Field stool – that’s a fun play on two tones of wood.

The Movie Night Modular Sofa sold out in just two weeks—what do you think made it such a hit with customers?

We had a lot of fun with our striped Movie Night campaign, bringing an activation and event into the showroom, and through our site – it was a fan favorite with a new twist, in the perfect neutral hue that was just enough playfulness, but not so loud that it would distract.

Sundays is known for beautiful, minimalist pieces with personality. How do you strike that balance between trend-driven design and long-term livability?

We are very mindful of not being too ‘trendy’ but rather creating classic, well-designed pieces with thoughtful details and quality materials that we like to say will ‘last and last’.

The new Sea Salt and Champagne hues in the Get Together Sofa are perfect for spring. How do you approach colour updates, and what inspired these tones?

They were very much in response to hearing feedback from our customers, both the tone and the texture of these fabrics is something we know our customers will be excited about.

Can you tell us more about the ongoing collaboration with Vancouver artist Scott Sueme and how art influences the way Sundays designs rugs?

We have been huge fans of Scott since before Sundays started – it has been incredible to see him continue to evolve as an artist. The Checkers rug has always been a fan favorite amongst customers and Scott has such a way with colour – which really lent itself to a perfect spring/summer collaboration.

With more people gathering at home, the new size of the Frame Round Dining Table feels perfectly timed. How do you anticipate what your customers will need next?

We are constantly in conversation with our customers whether through social channels, online, or customer care feedback and in our stores. Our product and creative teams do regular trend forecasting sessions which further informs what we do next.

How do sustainability and longevity factor into Sundays’ design ethos when launching new seasonal pieces?

We believe that true sustainability is the whole life-cycle of a product, so quality, natural materials, and multi-functionality are integral to our philosophy at Sundays. We truly believe in reducing our environmental footprint, through “fewer, better things,” quality furniture, and timeless design that stands the test of time.

Our product team works directly with our factory partners to identify opportunities for improvement, including replacing the use of styrofoam with sustainable packaging where possible with a goal of eliminating the use of styrofoam in our packaging, without impacting the integrity of the piece. As primarily a direct-to-consumer brand, we strive to reduce travel of our pieces before they arrive in our customers’ homes and offer a free swatch program to minimize additional travel for returns. Returned items are donated to local charities when possible. Internally, we continue to educate ourselves about further ways to contribute to a more sustainable future through our products and operations.

Sundays is proudly Canadian—how does being based in Canada shape your approach to retail, design, and customer experience?

Inspired by the beauty of the West Coast and the warm and inviting nature of Canadians – it’s very much the approach we take in our showrooms as well as product design.
