This summer, the iconic Celebration of Light gets a thirst-quenching upgrade thanks to Four Winds Brewing. We caught up with co-founder Adam Mills to chat about their new limited-edition Celebration of Light Lager—a rebranded version of their fan-favourite Four Winds Light that’s making a splash across BC just in time for the festivities. What does it mean to you—and to Four Winds Brewing—to be named the official beer of such an iconic Vancouver event like the Celebration of Light? 

It’s a huge honour! The Celebration of Light is such an iconic Vancouver event that brings people together in a big way. Being named the official beer feels like a milestone for us, and a natural fit for a beer we believe is a super approachable crowd-pleaser, and perfect for large gatherings like this. 

Tell us about the decision to temporarily rebrand Four Winds Light to ‘Celebration of Light Lager.’ How did the concept come together, and what inspired the design of the limited-edition can? 

When we were contacted by the Celebration of Light, we immediately knew one of our strengths would be the ability to offer something unique, specifically through a custom can design. And because our Light Lager already had a design and name that tied naturally to this event, we knew we had a winning concept in mind. We are just glad they liked it as much as we did! 

Our ability to act quickly and bring the idea to life, paired with our reputation for quality beer and strong community values is what I believe helped us secure the partnership. The final design is bold, simple, and celebratory. It’s a fresh take on a beer that’s widely available and has already become a summer staple for a lot of people. 

The beer itself is known for being ultra-light and crushable—perfect for summer nights. What makes this lager such a great match for fireworks, beach blankets, and community vibes? 

The name itself feels made for an event like this, but the beer really backs it up, too. It’s light, crisp, and clean, something almost anyone can enjoy. It doesn’t take your attention away from the moment; it just fits in naturally. Whether you’re on the beach, in the grandstands, or watching from your balcony, we feel it’s the kind of beer that can enhance the experience while staying subtle and easygoing. 

Craft culture is all about storytelling and connection. How does this partnership reflect Four Winds’ place in BC’s local beer scene and its connection to West Coast identity? 

While we feel we’ve made a strong name for ourselves on the West Coast, it’s not just about putting our name on something big, it’s about celebrating where we live, what we value, and how we connect. That’s always been at the heart of craft beer culture, and we’re proud to carry that forward in a way that feels true to us for this event.

Any fun plans or surprises in the works for fans attending the Celebration of Light who want to toast with a can of Celebration of Light Lager in hand? 

We don’t have any big surprises lined up. We’re just genuinely happy to be there. We’re looking forward to cracking a cold Celebration of Light Lager from the grandstands when the fireworks kick off. As a family-owned and operated business that’s grown from a team of four to a company big enough to sponsor the Celebration of Light, it’s going to be a pretty surreal moment for us!
