This summer, the iconic Blundstone boot is getting a stylish new co-star—and it’s got Vancouver written all over it.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Blundstone tapped some of its biggest fans worldwide to put their personal stamp on the brand’s legendary Classic boot. Among the thousands of Canadians who threw their hats (or boots) in the ring, one local creative stood out: Vancouver-based cinematographer Diego Lozano, who’s known for capturing the moody, dramatic vibes of the West Coast both behind the camera—and now, underfoot.
Launching July 29, Diego’s custom Blundstone—the Vancouver Boot—is available in an ultra-limited drop of just 10 pairs, and you can win them via @blundstoneca on Instagram. Consider this your cue to act fast.
So, what makes this boot so special? Lozano took the Classic Rustic Black style and added thoughtful details that nod to his life in film and the city he calls home. The heel is embossed with a clapperboard, a subtle-but-chic homage to his career as a Director of Photography. And the elastic side panels? They’ve been given a West Coast ombré treatment in dark, shifting tones that evoke Vancouver’s ever-changing skies, misty mountain mornings, and salty Pacific air.
For Lozano, who has worked on Vancouver-based productions like Girl in the Attic, the boot is more than a fashion statement—it’s a tribute to a city defined by creativity, hustle, and nature’s drama. “I’ve worn Blundstones on countless sets across the city,” he shares. “To be able to tell my Vancouver story through a boot that’s already part of my everyday life? That’s pretty incredible.”
Fashionable, functional, and full of meaning, the Vancouver Boot proves that sometimes the best stories are the ones you wear. Follow along at @blundstoneca and get ready to make your own scene, and check out our Q&A with Diego below. —Vita Daily
Your Vancouver Blundstone design is such a stylish nod to film and the West Coast—how did the idea for the clapperboard heel and ombre elastic come to life?
The incredible teams at Blundstone Canada and Australia encouraged me to design a boot that feels personal while reflecting the spirit of Vancouver, the city I call home. As a cinematographer, I wanted to add a symbol that resonates with everyone in the film industry: the iconic slate (or clapperboard). It’s instantly recognizable on set and speaks to the world I work in every day. The texture on the elastic draws inspiration from the tides of the West Coast.
As a cinematographer, you spend long hours on set—what role have Blundstones played in your day-to-day uniform, and what makes them a must-have for creatives on the move?
Blundstone boots don’t just look good, they strike the perfect balance between clean, professional style and practicality. They’re comfortable, built to last, weather-resistant, versatile, and even quiet on set thanks to their soles.
If your custom Blundstones had a movie genre, what would it be—and who would play the lead?
It would be an adventure movie, with Pedro Pascal in the lead, because he makes survival look stylish. But in truth, the real stars wearing the boots would be the crew behind the scenes, the ones carrying cameras, wrangling cables, and pushing carts through rain, mud, and early call times. That’s the real adventure.
How does your personal style off-set influence your work on-screen—and vice versa? Are there any fashion moments that have shaped your creative POV?
Personal style isn’t something I overthink. For me, fashion is all about practicality, wearing something reliable that lets me focus on doing my job.
Only 10 lucky fans can get their hands (or feet!) on The Vancouver Boot—what would be your dream setting to see them worn, on or off camera?
Definitely off camera! These boots are for the crew, the ones who get their hands dirty and keep the production running. They’re for the electrics, grips, camera assistants, art department, ADs, and everyone else hustling behind the scenes. I think they’d appreciate them the most, because they know what it means to be on their feet 12 hours a day, in every kind of weather and terrain.
