There’s raising a glass, and then there’s raising the bar. Mission Hill Family Estate has done both—again—after being named Winery of the Year at the 2025 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada. This marks a historic sixth win for the West Kelowna-based winery, solidifying its status as the most decorated estate in the 25-year history of the country’s most respected wine competition.

But Mission Hill didn’t just walk away with the title. The winery also earned an impressive nine medals, including two Platinum (for its 2022 Perpetua and 2022 Terroir Cabernet Franc) and seven Gold, with standout vintages like the 2020 Compendium and 2022 Terroir Meritage leading the charge. This year’s awards were judged by a panel of Canada’s top sommeliers, writers, and educators—and once again, Mission Hill proved why it’s considered a cornerstone of excellence in Canadian winemaking.

“This landmark win underscores our teams’ deep commitment to craftsmanship, innovation and terroir-driven expressions,” says Chief Winemaker Taylor Whelan. “Through over forty years, Mission Hill has continued to evolve, adopting sustainable farming practices, creating exceptional tasting and culinary experiences at our estate, and making a significant contribution to the Okanagan’s reputation on the world stage.”

To celebrate, the winery has released a curated set of award-winning wines now available online, including a few of this year’s top medalists. And if sipping these iconic bottles at home doesn’t quite capture the full magic, Mission Hill is offering a new series of Iconic Experiences that absolutely will.

The reimagined Chagall Room, a private salon blending modern luxury with vintage charm, now hosts the Iconic Oculus Experience—an intimate tasting of Mission Hill’s flagship wine (including Canada’s first 100-point red, the 2020 Oculus) following a tour of the underground barrel cellar. Also new this year: the Iconic Dining Experience, a multi-course, wine-paired culinary journey helmed by Executive Chef Patrick Gayler, featuring rare library pours from the estate’s most celebrated collections.

Whether you’re indulging in a once-in-a-lifetime tasting or celebrating at home with a bottle of Perpetua, one thing is clear: Mission Hill continues to set the gold (and platinum) standard for Canadian wine. —Noa Nichol
