When Toronto jeweller Anne Sportun teamed up with The Love Club—a grassroots initiative supporting mothers and babies in need—the result was more than just a piece of jewelry. Co-owner (and new mom) Haley Woodbury helped design a limited-edition bracelet that’s as meaningful as it is beautiful, with 25% of proceeds going directly to families across Ontario. We caught up with Haley and The Love Club founder Lauren Walker-Lee to talk about the collaboration and why this bracelet truly has heart. —Noa Nichol
Lauren, The Love Club was born from a single act of kindness on Christmas Eve. Can you take us back to that moment and share how it shaped your vision for the organization?
I had just become a mother for the first time four days prior, the instant perspective shift is pretty wild and was coupled with this feeling I had gained entrance into a special club. 19 months on, my motivation has not wavered in the slightest since dreaming up this idea. Putting my contacts in the fashion industry and energy to good use to help babies in need is confirmed everyday as we continue to grow. It is very special to look back on what started as a project that turned into a mission, and say a quiet thanks to everyone who has helped this ship rise.
Haley, as a new mother yourself, what drew you to collaborate with The Love Club, and how did motherhood influence your approach to designing the bracelet?
When Lauren first shared her mission with me, I was instantly moved. Becoming a mother myself opened my eyes to this incredible, unspoken “club” of motherhood. The thought of another mom and baby going without something as simple and joyful as new clothing broke my heart. I feel so fortunate to be able to dress my daughter in clothes I love, and I wanted other mothers to experience that same joy and dignity.
Lauren’s attention to detail — from the garments themselves to the tags and labels — is filled with thoughtfulness and love. I knew I wanted to support her work in any way I could. Thinking about “joining a club” reminded me of the friendship bracelets I wore as a kid, so designing a bracelet felt like the perfect way to connect people to this cause. It’s something you can wear every day — a little symbol of love that gives back.
The Anne Sportun x The Love Club bracelet is both a beautiful piece of jewelry and a vehicle for giving back. How did you ensure the design embodied the heart and soul of this mission?
I wanted the bracelet to be simple, sweet, and made to last — something that could become part of your everyday life. The heart design started as a playful, imperfect doodle I sketched, which our head goldsmith then hand-carved in wax before creating the mold. Every piece is handmade in Toronto, with care and intention, echoing the same love that Lauren and The Love Club pour into their work.
We chose 14k gold instead of our usual 18k to make the price point more accessible, because the more bracelets we can get out into the world, the more funds we raise. To me, it’s not just a piece of jewelry — it’s a small but powerful way to share love and make a tangible difference.
Lauren, The Love Club uses surplus fabrics to create sustainable baby essentials. Why was it important for you to weave sustainability into the foundation of the organization?
It was the absolute starting point to underpin the social mission of helping others. Given my time in the fashion industry (though not in production) I was quite aware of dead stock fabric, I wasn’t quite prepared to learn just how much surplus is out there. The Love Club offers a solution for both people and planet. We will keep reimagining fabric going unused and turn it into something useful – until perhaps there isn’t any surplus fabric left. We recently received offcuts of beautiful bedding fabric from Kiska Textiles and got to work turning them into bibs and baby blankets.
Canadian intimates brand Embrace gave us their offcuts too, and they were perfect for our joggers. It really is a beautiful community builder and fabric waste solution.
Haley, this bracelet will help fund clothing for babies across Ontario. How does it feel knowing each piece you craft will directly impact families in need?
It’s honestly hard to put into words. This project is deeply emotional for me. I hope that when someone wears this bracelet, they feel connected to something bigger — reminded to share love, extend kindness, and support families who need it most. We have such a responsibility to care for one another as a community, and there is always more we can give. Creating something beautiful that also carries real meaning is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
The collaboration feels deeply personal for both of you. How did your shared experiences as mothers influence the storytelling around this partnership?
As first-time moms, Lauren and I instantly connected — we both know the joy and the challenges of caring for a little one. That shared understanding gave our partnership real heart. We also share a passion for fashion and believe it can be a force for good. This collaboration was about blending love, style, and purpose into something meaningful that supports mothers and babies who need it most.
Lauren, you’ve turned a grassroots effort into a growing network of support. What has been the most surprising lessons you’ve learned along the way?
I am thrilled everyday by the network that has joined “the club” – we had a very successful Sip and Shop event at Anne Sportun, our first IRL fundraiser. Connecting with people in real life, had me flying high for days. The bracelet sent me over the edge- who wouldn’t be thrilled with a fashion collaboration in their first year!? The biggest surprise is why this hasn’t been done before.
Looking ahead, what are your hopes for the future of The Love Club and for more collaborations that merge design with meaningful social impact?
Though slowly, we will be expanding our impact country wide and tripling our production in year two. Our production angels CRW Design in Scarborough Ontario have recently started on a 1000-piece run which allows for greater impact. Collaboration wise you will have to stay tuned, as I have the perfect Canadian fashion brand on my vision board. Email to be sent this week.
