From the glamour of TIFF to the style stakes of NYFW, the world’s biggest stages don’t just set fashion trends—they shape the season’s most coveted hair looks. This fall, OLAPLEX PRO COLLECTIVE’s Cindy Duplantis is spotlighting everything from screen-sirens waves and sculpted micro bobs to undone, textured lengths. We sat down with Cindy to talk about the red-carpet inspiration behind these styles, how to recreate them at home, and the OLAPLEX essentials that keep hair strong, shiny, and camera-ready. —Noa Nichol
1. TIFF and NYFW are such trendsetting events. What were the biggest hair takeaways you noticed on the red carpet and runway this season?
For TIFF and NYFW I would definitely say volume is the biggest trend. We are seeing more of the loose effortless styles along with structured retro glam styles but they all share one thing in common: they are romantic. We are seeing easy 90’s up-do’s with strands left loose around the face. Think Pamela Anderson at a red carpet event in 1993.
2. The Retro Evening Glam look channels vintage Hollywood with a modern twist. What makes this style feel fresh in 2025, and how can people recreate it at home without a glam squad?
We are also seeing beautiful vintage looks with a modern edge. Rather than 1950’s era finger waves that sat cclose to the head or heavily lacquered roller sets we are seeing glam vintage looks but with more movement and volume, especially at the ends, around the face and in the fringe area. These looks are softer, more touchable than the vintage looks that inspired them and the hair has to be healthy for the looks to work.
3. The Edgy Micro Bob is being called the haircut of the season. Why do you think this cut resonates with the “quiet luxury” aesthetic that’s so popular right now?
It’s really about low maintenance polish. We are seeing a move away from the 2020 balayage colours and heavily styled long hair when we were all staying home to sleek, easy to style, girl boss looks as we head back to the office, post work meet ups and work trips. This modern “chop” works on everyone.
4. For clients considering a Micro Bob, what face shapes or hair textures does this cut work best with—and how can OLAPLEX products help keep it polished between salon visits?
The Micro Bob works on every face shape and every hair texture, it all depends on the where it is cut. If you want to highlight your eyes or cheekbones have it cut just below the earlobe, if your jawline is your best feature, have it cut below the chin and above the shoulder.
With regards to hair texture, this bob is piecey and artfully dishevelled . It is a nice way of elevating your current look.
With this look, hair health is essential. I also love using OLAPLEX No 4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo on freshly washed hair. The rice powder in the formula really works on eliminating oils from developing and weighing the hair down. I also love to spray OLAPLEX Volumizing Blow Dry Mist on the ends and blast it with a blow dryer to create that piecey texture.
5. Textured Waves are having a major moment, embracing air-drying and natural patterns. Why do you think we’re seeing this shift toward more effortless, authentic hair?
As a hairstylist, I work really hard to educate clients on how to work with their hair texture. Olaplex has amazing products for straight and curly hair. It is all about hair health, don’t over style and embrace your natural texture.
6. A lot of people worry about hair health with all the heat styling required for glamorous looks. What role does OLAPLEX play in protecting and repairing hair while still achieving these high-fashion styles?
OLAPLEX styling products are multi tasking essentials now that we are using powerful heat styling tools to style our hair. For instance, No 7 Bonding Oil works to maintain strength and reduce breakage while offering heat protection and shine. So many of their products have dual and triple identities.
7. If someone wanted to try one of these trends for an everyday look—say, at the office or for a night out—which would you recommend as the most versatile and wearable?
The microbob is this season’s most versatile look. It really suits every face shape and hair texture and you can use hot tools on it to style or just go with your natural curl or texture.
8. Looking ahead, how do you see the balance between bold, statement styles and natural, low-maintenance looks evolving into the winter season and beyond?
It is great to be able to embrace such different looks depending on what works best for us but we also need to be realistic about our environment in Canada. With cold weather and hats etc retro vintage glam may not always be a look that we can pull off during the day and we may need to save that for special occasions. This is why hair that is as close to your natural growth patterns and texture and requires the least amount of styling may be the best choice for an everyday look.
