Sydney Silverman’s biggest retail moment yet lands November 14—her 30-piece Gianni Bini x Sydney Silverman collection fuses timeless Americana with West Coast polish. In this Q&A she breaks down the inspiration behind plush knits, tailored denim and the subtle Western details that make the line feel both nostalgic and now—and why teaming with Dillard’s is a full-circle, made-for-the-gram moment. —Noa Nichol
Your capsule fuses timeless Americana with West Coast polish—what specific images, memories or pieces of vintage Americana did you channel when designing this collection, and how did they translate into today’s wardrobe?
I kept coming back to the mix of Colorado, LA, and New York because I feel like those places are such a blend of my life. That mix of mountain and city, with a little bit of edge. I was really influenced by my family’s house in Colorado, with the old leather chairs, vintage denim, and fringe jackets by the door that give it that nostalgic lived in vibe. I wanted to take those textures and classic Americana references and make them feel modern and easy to wear. It’s pieces that nod to that world but still fit into your everyday wardrobe, whether you’re traveling, heading to a meeting, or just running out of your house.
Walk us through your creative process—how did an idea become a finished Gianni Bini x Sydney Silverman piece? Where did you start (fabric, silhouette, moodboard) and what was the moment you knew a design was done?
I started with a moodboard full of textures and inspo that captured that mountain meets city feel. From there, I really thought about what pieces I actually want to wear and what I’d reach for over and over again. Fabric was a big part of that because it’s what brings an idea to life. Seeing how everything came together on the body was the final step for me. If it felt effortless and like something I’d throw on without overthinking, that’s when I knew it was right.
This is your largest retail partnership to date—how did collaborating with Dillard’s and the Gianni Bini team shape the collection differently than working on your own pieces?
It was such a good learning experience. The Gianni Bini and Dillard’s team is incredible with fit and construction, and they think through every tiny detail. I learned so much about how many steps and people it takes to bring each piece to life. It made me more aware of how something translates off the hanger and onto real people. The biggest takeaway for me was patience. Creating something at this scale takes time, and you really have to trust the process.
The collection promises to move “from the ranch to the runway.” Which three pieces are your personal workhorses for that transition?
For me it’s the denim set, the yellow jacket, and the fringe jacket.
Those three pieces really show how the collection moves between laid-back and elevated. The denim set has that effortless Western feel but still looks polished enough for the city. The yellow jacket is one of my favorites because it’s so versatile. You can throw it on to travel, wear it with jeans during the day, or dress it up at night. And the fringe jacket is the one that ties it all together. It has that ranch-inspired edge but can easily be styled in a way that feels fashion forward.
Creator-led collections are everywhere now—what advice would you give other influencers who want to turn their aesthetic into a thoughtful, wearable line that resonates beyond social media?
Design for real life, not just for the photo. Think about what you actually wear all the time, what makes you feel confident, comfortable, and still put together. Be involved in every step of the process. The more hands on you are, the more it feels like you when people wear it.
Tell us about fit and inclusivity—how did you think about sizing and cuts so these pieces work for different people?
Fit was a huge priority. We tried on everything a million times and made tweaks so it would flatter different body types. I wanted shapes that feel structured but still comfortable, like cropped jackets that don’t box you in, longer lines for layering, and pieces you can easily make your own with how you style them.
Looking ahead, what would you love to explore next with Dillard’s or on your own?
I absolutely loved getting to have a bigger role with a store I’ve always shopped at, so I’d really like to keep doing more partnerships like this where I can be hands on and involved in the creative process. Whether that’s with Dillard’s again or other brands that feel aligned, I want to keep building those deeper collaborations where I can help shape the vision from start to finish.
