More than just a place that provides a sense of security and comfort, your home acts as an extension of your personality. Being the owner, you will want your living space to reflect the best parts about yourself, especially your most creative side. You’re basically free to choose motifs and decorations that show your outlook in life and create a truly personal atmosphere. For sure, there’s no set guide you can follow to achieve all this, but it helps if you can unlock your most creative ideas for an interior that expresses your passions.

It’s only a matter of focusing on the right tips for finding inspiration. Since sprucing up your interior isn’t just about following trends, you will want to base your design choices on what best describes you. There are only a few key principles to follow, but the rest of the work lies in your hands. If you’re thinking of refurbishing indoor spaces, consider the following in finding inspiration and unlocking your most creative side.

1. Play with Colors

Sure enough, the first thing you will want to focus on is creating a color palette. You can base this on a prevailing theme or personal color choices. Elegant interiors work well with neutral colors like white and beige, and so do minimalist motifs. In case you want to go outside the box, take as much time as you need to experiment with different color combinations that create a desired effect.

Calming hues include pastel shades, which are known to lighten up the interior and make it appear larger in person. However, you can always base your color choices on existing media, such as a painting. Gold and blue combinations work great if you’re taking notes from Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

2. Decorate with Art Pieces

Nothing reflects your creative side quite like adding art pieces to your interior. Anything from a watercolor wall decoration to a glass statuette captures your mood as well as your aesthetic style. You just have to create a good mix across different genres, formats, and sizes. A large abstract painting could serve as a focal point of a living room dominated by neutral colors.

Statement pieces, since they function as focal points, should be placed in standalone displays. You don’t have to spend millions of dollars to acquire valuable art. You can always look towards replicas, visit antique shops, and enter art fairs where you can chance upon pieces that would look great for your interior.

3. Think About Lighting

When changing the interior, you should also go for effective lighting placements. You will want your space to look just as cozy at night, so consider installing ambient lights along the ceilings and moldings to create a more intimate mood.

If you have art pieces around, use either uplights or downlights that can turn your home into a makeshift gallery. Just be sure not to overdo your lighting placements, as this could make your interior disorienting to people who have vision problems.

4. Make the Most of DIY Decorations

Creativity is always about tapping into your personality. Your interior project won’t always benefit from having to buy expensive decorations. For sure, you can always make do with ones made out of love

Aside from making your own artwork, you should also go for other projects, such as repurposing excess fabrics as curtains or reserving a wall for your kids or yourself to draw on. You can also paint over used old glass jars and disposable containers into custom planters for succulents and other indoor plants.

Endnote

Improving your home’s interior doesn’t have to be time-consuming and stressful. It could also be a relaxing and cathartic process as it allows you to be yourself and turn your home into a personal canvas.

We tend to focus so much on interiors that we forget the exterior is the very first creative statement your home makes. After revamping our living spaces we realized the garage door was completely out of sync with the rest of the look — it was dragging down the whole aesthetic. Ended up doing a lot of research and found premium overhead garage door options that actually complement the home’s style rather than clash with it. The difference in curb appeal was immediate and honestly just as satisfying as any interior update we’ve done.
