Orangetheory’s annual Transformation Challenge is back—and this year, it’s proving something powerful: success isn’t about signing up in record numbers, it’s about showing up with consistency. While 2024 saw more participants join, 2025 brought bigger results, with members collectively losing more fat, gaining more muscle, and discovering their deepest why for change.

We sat down with Michele Nesbitt, National Fitness Director at Orangetheory Fitness Canada, along with one of this year’s standout winners, to talk about the magic behind the 8-week challenge, what really drives transformation, and why committing to 18 classes might just change your life. —Noa Nichol

The Transformation Challenge saw even greater results this year despite fewer sign-ups. What does that reveal about the role of consistency over sheer participation numbers?

This year’s transformation challenge highlights that true results stem from consistent commitment rather than just participation numbers. It demonstrates that when individuals dedicate themselves to the program and engage regularly, they unlock their potential for significant change and improvement. Consistency is the key driver behind achieving lasting results.

Orangetheory is built on science-backed training. How does the structure of the Transformation Challenge support members in staying committed week after week?

The transformation challenge is designed around evidence-based training principles that foster commitment and sustained progress. Each week features specific goals and focuses, which not only provide clear direction but also create a sense of accomplishment. This structured approach encourages members to track their progress and stay accountable. Studios also take their own approach to weekly challenges by making it fun for members to stay accountable, using weekly challenges and contests to keep them on track. Additionally, by taking a holistic view of fitness—incorporating physical activity, nutrition, and mental well-being—members can see how each aspect interconnects, making their journey more fulfilling and sustainable. This comprehensive support system helps maintain motivation and engagement week after week.

Many people begin fitness programs with excitement but struggle to sustain momentum. What are the key behavioural or mindset shifts you see in members who finish strong?

Many people start fitness journeys with enthusiasm but face challenges in keeping that momentum. They don’t know where to start, what exercises to do, and how to creating a consistent routine (that they’ll actually want to stick to). Key behavioral and mindset shifts that help members who finish strong often include setting realistic goals, focusing on consistency over perfection and cultivating a positive mindset. Building a support system, celebrating small victories, and viewing setbacks as learning opportunities can also be crucial, because setbacks are likely to happen! Finding enjoyment in the process and being adaptable in their approach can sustain motivation over the long term and help you be realistic about achieving your goals.

This year’s results showed more pounds lost and more muscle gained across the board. What changes or improvements in coaching, programming, or community might have contributed to that?

Our Orangetheory workouts continually adapt to our members goals, fitness trends and the science behind performance. The Transformation Challenge also reflects this shift, recognizing that each member has unique aspirations, which is why the program has evolved to prioritize a broader range of goals, moving beyond just weight/fat loss to emphasize muscle gain as well.

The ongoing dedication of our coaches plays a crucial role; they are in the studio daily, providing personalized support, technique feedback, and motivation to help members achieve their personal bests, ensuring that the journey doesn’t end with the challenge. This holistic approach fosters an environment where everyone can thrive. They’re not just running you through the workout, they’re giving you that extra push you need to hit that personal best.

The challenge isn’t just about physical changes. What emotional or lifestyle transformations do you see most often in members who complete the program?

One of the most vital aspects of the challenge is the continuity it fosters. By committing to the program for eight weeks, participants not only achieve physical changes, such as weight loss and improved physique, but also cultivate lasting habits that enhance their lives beyond the studio. This includes prioritizing proper rest and recovery, which helps recharge both body and mind, enabling greater alertness and productivity throughout the day. Additionally, learning effective stress-reduction techniques can significantly improve focus and overall well-being. Ultimately, the challenge empowers members to embrace a healthier lifestyle that positively impacts both their physical and emotional health, leading to a more balanced and fulfilling life.

We emphasize key areas such as the importance of rest and recovery, proper hydration, and more, guiding you through a structured approach. The goal is to instill these habits into your daily routine, ensuring that the positive changes extend well beyond the eight-week challenge. Lean into your studio community for support – coaches, staff, members – know they are all cheering you on. For this year’s winning member: What was the moment you realized the challenge was working—not just physically, but mentally or emotionally? And what kept you coming back on days you didn’t feel like it?

Larisa from OTF East St. Paul in Manitoba was not a fitness enthusiast before joining Orangetheory. She typically bailed on going to the gym and wasn’t motivated or had the energy to do even her daily routine and activities. After she joined in July 2024, she developed a love for physical activity. The major changes she noticed was during the Transformation Challenge when she saw improvements in her overall health and nutrition habits. It gave her the kickstart she needed and the results speak for themselves – Larisa increased her muscle mass 7.3%!

She also credits OTF for the positive changes she’s seen in her mental health. The consistent routine gives her structure and has shifted her mindset completely. She now allows herself to be happy when she looks in the mirror and feels better in many aspects of her life.
