We caught up with Cynthia Di Meo, Global Artistry at Rare Beauty, to talk lip care rituals, why this formula hits different, and how to wear it day to night. —Noa Nichol

How did you design one product to work as both a daytime balm and an overnight mask without feeling heavy?
It has this melt-on-contact texture that feels so lightweight, but still really hydrating. During the day, it gives your lips that dewy, comfortable sheen, and then at night it kind of shifts — the formula creates this nourishing moisture barrier so you wake up with restored, super soft lips. And the best part is it never feels greasy or sticky
How did you choose the four shades, and which one surprised you as the fan favourite during testing?
We chose the four shades to match different moods and moments. There’s a rich berry for something bold, an everyday rose that feels universally flattering, a warm caramel neutral for an effortless, polished look, and a clear shade for pure glow or glass skin look on the cheeks.
What makes the hyaluronic acid butter + shea + apple seed oil + centella combo the ultimate moisture team?
Each ingredient really has its own job. The hyaluronic acid butter pulls in moisture, the shea adds deep nourishment, the apple seed oil softens without feeling heavy, and the centella helps calm and soothe. When they all work together, you get hydration, softness, and protection in a single swipe.
If this lands in everyone’s stocking, what’s the reaction you hope for after the first swipe?
If this landed in someone’s stocking, I’d hope the first swipe makes them smile, feeling their lips instantly soft, smooth, and hydrated. The idea is that it gives an immediate boost of comfort and glow, making it feel like a must-have they’ll reach for every day.
