Berry Important News: Oishii’s Legendary Japanese Strawberries Are Now In Canada

February 3, 2026

Food

Toronto’s strawberry scene just got a major glow-up. Enter the Koyo Berry, the cult-favourite Japanese strawberry from smart-farming innovator Oishii, officially launching in Canada—with Toronto as its very first stop.

Known for its impossibly sweet flavour, perfectly red interior (yes, all the way through), and delicate, just-picked texture, the Koyo Berry is grown indoors using Oishii’s state-of-the-art vertical farming technology. Translation: pesticide-free, Non-GMO strawberries that don’t even need to be washed before eating. Effortless. Luxurious. Delicious (which, fittingly, is exactly what Oishii means in Japanese).

You can now find Koyo Berries at Fortinos locations and select fine grocers across the city, plus on menus at some of Toronto’s most buzzed-about spots. Think: strawberry shortcake at Miku, berry-forward cookies at Andrea’s Cookies, tea cakes from KWENTO, and a cozy rice pudding moment at Belle Isle—each putting their own spin on the berry that chefs can’t stop talking about.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Oishii is also popping up in front of Minami on February 14 (11am–4pm), giving away complimentary trays of Koyo Berries alongside flowers and custom Valentine’s cards—while supplies last, naturally.

Whether you’re gifting, baking, or simply snacking straight from the tray, the Koyo Berry delivers a little joy in every bite. Sweet, nostalgic, and beautifully engineered, it’s proof that strawberry season has officially become a year-round affair in Toronto—and we’re very here for it. —Noa Nichol
