The Smart Set: Meet The CEO Merging High-Tech AI With Non-Toxic Style

We’ve all been there: staring into a closet bursting with clothes, yet feeling like we have absolutely nothing to wear. For the modern professional woman, the “morning closet stare” is more than a minor annoyance—it’s a drain on the cognitive bandwidth we need for leadership and creativity.

Enter Lacey Cadieux-McLean, the CEO of Rhubaia. After 16 years in IT project management, Lacey is using her technical precision to solve the two biggest problems in our wardrobes: hidden toxicity and decision fatigue. By pairing an eco-conscious professional clothing line with an AI-powered virtual closet app, she’s helping women shop their own closets and stay healthy while doing it.

We chatted with Lacey about why your blazer shouldn’t be “toxic” and how AI is the new personal stylist we didn’t know we needed.

The Wake-Up Call: Is Your Power Suit Toxic?

Lacey’s journey into fashion started not on a runway, but in a research lab. She began looking into the chemical treatments used for wrinkle and stain resistance in traditional workwear.

“Clothing meant to empower women in boardrooms should never compromise their wellbeing,” Lacey explains. “I found formaldehyde-based resins, PFAS, and azo dyes… substances that sit directly against the skin for long hours each day. It became clear that the industry needed a healthier standard.”

The Smarttech Bridge

Coming from the world of IT, Lacey doesn’t see a garment as just a piece of fabric—she sees it as a high-functioning tool.

“I view a blazer more as a piece of ‘software’ for a woman’s daily life than just a textile,” she says. “Just as software must be reliable, intuitive, and high-performing, a garment should support a woman’s movements, protect her health, and simplify her routine.”

Enter the Virtual Closet

The real magic happens in the Rhubaia app. By using advanced rendering and AI-driven recommendations, the platform turns your static wardrobe into a dynamic, interactive experience.

“Instead of treating clothing as static items, our app turns your wardrobe into a dynamic, interactive experience,” says Lacey. “The AI provides smart styling suggestions based on weather, preferences, and even upcoming events. It actively learns and adapts to help you move through life with clarity and confidence.”

Collaborative Dressing

One of the coolest features? You can invite friends, stylists, or even your partner into your digital closet to help you curate looks. It’s a social platform that encourages connection rather than consumption.

“The Rhubaia Virtual Closet allows users to curate outfits and share inspiration across distances,” Lacey notes. “It’s about building a collective support system for your style.”

Shopping Your Own Closet

In a world of fast fashion, Rhubaia is a breath of fresh, non-toxic air. The app is designed to reduce textile waste by showing you new ways to wear what you already own.

“We reject the premise that beauty must be disposable,” Lacey insists. “Our goal is for a blazer or pants purchased today to remain relevant—and wearable—ten years from now. Longevity is the true luxury.” —Noa Nichol
