Forget velvet seats and dark theatres—Boca del Lupo is taking audiences outdoors for a larger-than-life theatrical adventure unlike anything else happening in Vancouver this spring.
Launching May 29 at Vancouver International Children’s Festival before continuing with an extended run on Granville Island, Me & The Forest transforms Ron Basford Park Amphitheatre into an immersive woodland world filled with giant puppets, roaming spirits, original music, and immersive audio delivered through wireless headphones.
Created in collaboration with Korean puppet masters ArtstageSAN, the production stars towering tree-like creatures—including a five-metre-tall West Coast conifer named Mitig—as audiences are invited into a playful, poetic exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature.
The creative team behind the spectacle is equally impressive: acclaimed Algonquin playwright Yvette Nolan penned the script, music comes from Pietro Amato (known for collaborations with Arcade Fire), and the production features voice work by Hiro Kanagawa of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Star Trek: Discovery, and The X-Files fame.
For longtime Vancouver theatre lovers, the show also marks the highly anticipated return of Boca del Lupo’s legendary outdoor spectacles—the company previously staged productions beneath the Burrard Street Bridge and high among the trees of Stanley Park.
In other words: this is not your average family outing.
Me & The Forest runs May 29 through June 14, with tickets starting at $15. And yes, you may leave wanting to hug a tree.
