For years, wearable technology has promised to make our lives smarter. There was just one problem: most of it wasn’t particularly stylish.
Smart rings may be one of the fastest-growing categories in tech, but while consumers love the health insights, sleep tracking, and wellness data, few are enthusiastic about the look. Enter Vancouver-born jewelry designer Steff Eleoff, whose cult-favourite accessories label is quietly transforming the way we think about wearable technology.
With the launch of its new GEN 5 Tech Ring Cover Collection, STEFF ELEOFF is proving that smart rings don’t have to sacrifice personal style. Instead, they can become part of it.
“What made me create them was simple,” says Eleoff. “I knew that a smart ring did not match my STEFF ELEOFF ring stack. It looked so out of place. Our mantra has always been to not shy away from standing out and to personalize your own style. With smart rings, there wasn’t really a way to make them your own.”
The result is a collection of sculptural jewelry covers designed to transform existing smart rings into statement pieces. The new GEN 5 lineup includes four signature styles—The Elixir, The Flow, The Teardrop, and The Drip, a newly released silhouette that sold out within 24 hours of its debut.
That immediate response speaks to a larger cultural shift.
As technology becomes increasingly integrated into daily life, consumers are looking for ways to inject individuality back into the objects they wear every day.
“People want to feel in control and want options outside the bland aesthetics of the modern age,” says Eleoff. “The more we lean into technology and AI, the more we want real, authentic moments. We want to personalize our tech.”
She compares the phenomenon to the evolution of the smartphone.
“Just like people personalize their phones with cases, we’re becoming that for the smart ring.”
It’s a natural extension of the STEFF ELEOFF brand, which has built a devoted following thanks to its bold, sculptural silhouettes and distinctive design language.
Interestingly, designing around technology didn’t require a dramatic shift in approach.
“It felt like a really natural integration,” says Eleoff. “We use traditional jewelry-making techniques like lost wax casting, combined with new-age 3D technology. We’re always looking for new ways to innovate.”
The challenge wasn’t simply creating something beautiful—it was ensuring the pieces remained comfortable and functional for everyday wear.
“Our jewelry is made to move with you through your daily life,” she explains. “We trial-test everything to make sure the sculptural forms are comfortable to wear.”
The brand’s journey itself feels almost as unlikely as the category it is helping to define. What began six years ago over a tequila shot has grown into an internationally recognized label worn by celebrities, tastemakers, and fashion insiders.
Yet Eleoff says the move into wearable tech felt surprisingly intuitive.
“I’ve always followed my intuition when designing and focused on creating things that I personally want to wear,” she says. “The tech ring covers were such an organic decision for us as a brand.”
As wearable technology continues to evolve, she believes we’re only seeing the beginning of what happens when technology companies start collaborating more closely with artists and designers.
“There’s already a movement happening,” she says. “I think it’s important that tech companies align themselves with artists. Let the technology companies focus on functionality, and let the artists do what we do best.”
It’s a philosophy that feels increasingly relevant in an era where consumers expect more from the products they wear.
Because if smart rings are here to stay—and all signs suggest they are—the future belongs to designs that feel less like gadgets and more like jewelry.
With STEFF ELEOFF’s latest collection, that future has officially arrived.
