When it comes to wedding fashion, some dresses are beautiful—and then there are dresses that become part of fashion history.

Fresh off her recent wedding, Dua Lipa stepped into the latter category, wearing a custom CHANEL Haute Couture creation that marks a significant moment for the House: the first Haute Couture wedding dress designed by Creative Director Matthieu Blazy for a friend of CHANEL.

The result is nothing short of breathtaking.

Handcrafted in the legendary CHANEL ateliers at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris, the gown is a celebration of the artistry and meticulous craftsmanship that define Haute Couture at its highest level. Every detail tells a story of extraordinary savoir-faire, brought to life through the collaboration of several of CHANEL’s renowned Maisons d’art.

The dress features an astonishing 480,000 hand-applied beads embroidered by Atelier Montex, while intricate trompe l’oeil jewel embellishments created by Lesage required more than 1,155 hours of needlework alone. Adding movement and softness, Lemarié meticulously incorporated 25,000 feathers throughout the design, creating an ethereal effect that feels both timeless and modern.

A dramatic two-metre train trailed behind the bride, complemented by a six-metre tulle veil adorned with hand-embroidered beads, delicate feathers, and hand-cut organza appliqués. Completing the look: custom white satin pumps crafted exclusively by Massaro.

Beyond the remarkable numbers, however, what makes the gown so captivating is its balance. The silhouette feels romantic without being overly traditional, ornate without feeling heavy, and unmistakably CHANEL while still reflecting Dua Lipa’s contemporary, fashion-forward spirit.

In an era where celebrity bridal style often chases trends, this dress feels destined to endure—a couture creation rooted in craftsmanship, artistry, and the kind of attention to detail that can only come from the world’s most storied fashion houses.

If this is any indication of Matthieu Blazy’s vision for CHANEL Haute Couture, the future is looking very beautiful indeed. —Noa Nichol
