When it comes to decorating our babes’ bedrooms, we’ve had long and reliable relationships with big-box stores. Nothing wrong with that, but our picks have been more pragmatic than Pinterest-worthy.
Until now. We’re taking a whole new approach now that Gautier Studio has made its line available at Simons.ca (from $70, with free shipping over $100). The Montreal design house creates affordable, easy-to-assemble pieces that are nice to look at and, yes, practical. Think wall-mounted shelves in natural Baltic birch wood, toddler stools with interlocking design and punchy graphic-check bean bags. There’s a giant retro-style height chart and even a sleek playhouse that wouldn’t look out of place in a grown-up space.
We’ll never give up our favourite big-box shops, but it’s nice to have options, no line-ups required. —Marianne Wisenthal
