Bridal Prep Treatments That Actually Make A Difference

Wedding planning has a way of turning into a countdown of appointments. Skin often gets squeezed into whatever time is left, treated as an afterthought instead of something worth its own timeline. But the brides who look most like themselves on their wedding day are usually the ones who started planning their skin the same way they planned everything else: early, deliberately, and with room to adjust.

To understand what that actually looks like in practice, we asked two experts to walk us through exactly how that plan comes together: Dr. Brandt, a specialist in facial cosmetic plastic surgery at FORM Face + Body, and Dr. Julia Carroll, a board-certified dermatologist at Compass Dermatology.

Here are treatments to add to your bridal prep plan:

Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin)

For softening expression lines without losing natural movement, both doctors point to neuromodulators as a bridal staple and recommend 6-8 weeks before the wedding to try neuromodulators.

“They also create a more refreshed appearance and allow makeup to sit more smoothly.” says Dr. Brandt. “For first-time patients, I recommend treatment at least two months before the wedding so there is time for a follow-up appointment and any small refinements if needed.”

Dermal Filler

Dr. Carroll describes it as “helpful when used strategically, particularly for restoring volume, improving facial balance, or subtly enhancing areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin, or the under-eye area,” adding, “it is not about chasing one feature, it’s about restoring balance.”

Her preferred timeline is at least 6 months before the wedding, and ideally earlier if someone is new to filler since “that allows time for the treatment to settle, for the patient to live with the result, and for any refinements to be made without pressure.”

Skin Tightening & Texture Treatments

Both recommend building skin quality gradually, with only a light finishing touch close to the date.

XERF skin tightening, one of Dr. Brandt’s go-to treatments, uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen while tightening skin immediately, and stands out for requiring virtually no downtime.

“XERF is one of my favourite treatments for patients preparing for an important event,” Dr. Brandt says, noting that patients “can typically return immediately to their normal activities.”

The recommended approach is to “begin treatments 2–3 months before the wedding for optimal collagen stimulation,” but “a maintenance treatment can also be performed 1 to 2 days before the wedding because there is essentially no downtime, and will give you a snatched neckline for the big day,” explains Brandt.

Dr. Carroll takes a similar approach with hydration-focused treatments like JetPeel, preferring “a planned series of treatments rather than a one-off facial right before the wedding,” with “the final gentle treatment a few days before the wedding to boost hydration and glow.”

For laser and light-based treatments specifically, she likes to “start lasers about one year before the wedding, especially if we are treating pigment, redness, acne scarring, texture, or sun damage.”

Medical Grade Skincare & Facials

Beyond in-office procedures, both doctors point to the daily basics, sunscreen, antioxidants, retinoids, and consistent moisturizing, as the real foundation of good skin. Neither considers a procedure a substitute for it.

“No in-office procedure can replace a healthy skincare routine,” says Dr. Brandt, recommending a personalized daily routine with a callout against switching things up too close to the date since “some people can experience breakouts with changes to their routine.”

Dr. Carroll calls skincare “the true hero of wedding prep,” and says “a good routine can improve hydration, texture, dullness, and overall skin resilience.”

But flags a common bridal mistake: overloading on active ingredients for fast results, which “can backfire and leave the skin irritated.” Her advice is to build the routine “6 to 12 months before the wedding,” then keep “things very stable in the final month.”
