Calling all cat people: PetSmart has unveiled its second annual ranking of Canada’s Top 25 Cat-Loving Cities, just in time for PetSmart Charities of Canada National Adoption Week (July 20–26).
For the second year in a row, Langley, B.C. has claimed the coveted No. 1 spot, with Kelowna, Courtenay and Victoria also earning places in the Top 10. This year’s newcomers? Belleville, Ont. and Nanaimo, B.C., proving that feline fandom is growing from coast to coast.
The rankings are based on cat adoptions through PetSmart Charities of Canada, along with purchases of cat toys, treats and enrichment products, offering a snapshot of the communities going above and beyond for their furry companions.
The announcement also comes during peak “kitten season,” when shelters are overflowing with cats and kittens looking for forever homes. During National Adoption Week, PetSmart stores across Canada will host adoption events with local rescue partners, making it the perfect time to welcome a new feline family member. Better yet, adopters will receive VIPP (Very Important Pet Parent) status in PetSmart’s loyalty program, plus an Adoption Guide packed with more than $350 in coupons for essentials.
Whether you’re already a proud cat parent or thinking about bringing one home, there’s never been a better time to celebrate Canada’s love affair with cats. —Noa Nichol
