Oribe’s New Bond Building Elixir Is Changing The Way We Think About Healthy Hair

For years, luxury haircare has focused on making damaged hair look healthier. Now, Oribe wants to make it stronger from the inside out.

The iconic salon brand has unveiled its newest innovation, Hair Alchemy Bond Building Elixir, a next-generation treatment designed to rebuild hair where damage begins—deep within the hair fibre. Rather than simply coating strands like a traditional conditioner or mask, the elixir restores weakened bonds to improve strength, elasticity and resilience over time, all while delivering the elevated sensory experience Oribe is known for.

To celebrate the launch, Oribe’s striking new campaign features female bodybuilders, drawing a powerful parallel between physical strength and healthy hair. It’s a refreshing reminder that true transformation doesn’t happen overnight—it happens through consistency, care and resilience.

So what exactly are hair bonds, and why have they become beauty’s biggest buzzword?

“A hair strand is made of long chains of keratin protein held together by three kinds of chemical bonds,” explains Adam Livermore, Oribe Global Educator and Brand Ambassador. “Disulfide bonds are the strongest and most permanent. They can be broken by aggressive colour services, chemical treatments or too much heat styling. When that happens, the hair literally starts to fall apart and break. Rebuilding those bonds restores the internal structure of the hair.”

Livermore likens it to renovating a house.

“If you were remodeling your home, bond builders would be like the studs and joists—the structural elements,” he says. “Conditioners and masques are like the paint, pillows and drapes. They improve how the house looks, but they don’t rebuild the framework. Bond builders strengthen the hair from the inside.”

The launch couldn’t come at a better time. Summer may be synonymous with beach days and poolside afternoons, but it’s also one of the harshest seasons for hair.

“The ocean will dry your hair out a bit, but swimming pools will literally annihilate it,” Livermore says. “Chlorine does the same thing as household bleach. If you want beautiful hair, keep it out of pool water whenever possible.”

His favourite preventative trick? Saturate dry hair with a rich oil before taking a dip.

“Coat your hair with a heavyweight oil, put it in a bun while you swim, then wash it out immediately afterwards,” he advises. “Extensive pool damage can take months to repair, so prevention is always the best approach.”

For hair that’s already showing signs of stress, the Hair Alchemy Bond Building Elixir works differently than most treatments.

“If your hair is actively breaking from damage, Oribe Bond Building Elixir will stop the breakage,” says Livermore. “It’s rebuilding the structure of the hair while also improving its overall condition.”

He also dispels one of the biggest myths surrounding strengthening treatments—that they inevitably leave hair stiff or brittle.

“Older formulas often relied on whole animal proteins, which could build up on the hair and actually make it more prone to breaking,” he explains. “Oribe formulates with plant-based proteins, hydrolyzed proteins and amino acids, so you get the strengthening benefits without worrying about buildup.”

His ideal routine? Shampoo and condition with the Hair Alchemy collection three times a week, apply the Bond Building Elixir after every wash if hair is damaged—or every other wash for healthier hair—and always finish with the Hair Alchemy Fortifying Treatment Serum before heat styling.

The takeaway? Beautiful hair isn’t just about shine anymore. It’s about building strength beneath the surface—one healthy strand at a time. —Noa Nichol
