If you’ve been trying to score tickets to The Play That Goes Wrong, here’s your second chance.
After delighting audiences with its delightfully disastrous brand of comedy, the Arts Club Theatre Company has announced a two-week extension of its hit production, with performances now running through August 30 at the Lindsay Family Stage on Granville Island.
Directed by Josh Epstein, the Olivier Award-winning comedy follows the hopelessly earnest members of the fictional Cornley Drama Society as they attempt to stage a classic 1920s murder mystery. Naturally, nothing goes according to plan. Sets collapse, props malfunction, actors forget their lines, the leading lady is knocked unconscious, and even the corpse struggles to stay dead. The result is an evening of perfectly choreographed chaos that blends the mystery of Agatha Christie with the irreverent physical comedy of Monty Python.
The extension comes after overwhelming audience demand.
“Audiences have loved the hilarious havoc of this show so much that we are extending its run for two more weeks,” says Peter Cathie White, Executive Director of the Arts Club Theatre Company.
Artistic Director Ashlie Corcoran agrees, calling the production “an unforgettable experience that’s perfect for summer.”
“The physical comedy and behind-the-scenes mayhem showcase the talent and ingenuity of our cast and creative team,” she says.
Written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, the co-founders of Mischief Theatre, The Play That Goes Wrong has become an international phenomenon, spawning multiple West End and Broadway productions, television adaptations and devoted fans in more than 45 countries.
