A Swipe Of Lipstick Is Still Canada’s Favourite Confidence Boost—Here’s Why

Some beauty products come and go, but lipstick remains forever.

Just in time for National Lipstick Day on July 29, new Canadian research commissioned by Revlon confirms what beauty lovers have known all along: lipstick isn’t just makeup—it’s a mood.

According to a new Harris Poll, lipstick is the No. 1 makeup product Canadian women couldn’t leave the house without, outperforming even mascara. And while a swipe of colour can instantly brighten a complexion, it’s the emotional boost that keeps women coming back.

An impressive 94 per cent of respondents said lipstick elevates even the simplest outfit, while 90 per cent agreed it helps them feel more polished and put together. More than half (55 per cent) admitted they’ve reached for lipstick as a pick-me-up on a difficult day, proving that sometimes confidence really does come in a tube.

The survey also found that lipstick is one beauty indulgence Canadians aren’t ready to part with. Nearly two-thirds (66 per cent) consider it a small luxury worth prioritizing, even when budgets are tight, and 84 per cent say they’d rather hunt for a sale than give it up altogether.

Generationally, lipstick continues to evolve. Gen Z and Millennials are embracing it as a form of self-expression and empowerment, while older Canadians are more likely to see it as the finishing touch that completes a timeless, polished look.

To celebrate National Lipstick Day, Revlon is spotlighting several standout lip essentials worth adding to your beauty bag. The new Glimmer Lip Treat Balm + Mask delivers nourishing hydration around the clock, while PhotoReady Blur Liner creates a smoother, more defined lip contour. Looking for extra volume? PhotoReady Instant Plump Serum helps lips appear fuller, and the cult-favourite Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick—now available in 20 shades—combines glossy shine with the comfortable feel of a balm. All available on Amazon.ca and at Shoppers Drug Mart stores across Canada.

If there’s one takeaway from the research, it’s this: lipstick has never been just about colour. It’s about confidence, self-expression and the simple ritual of putting your best face forward—one swipe at a time. —Noa Nichol
