Sorry, summer. As much as we’ll miss sandals and sundresses, we’re ready to roll out our favourite fall pieces, plus do a little shopping for the season. Get yourself set for colder temperatures when you add these five must-have fall buys to your shopping list. —Jeanine Gordon
mad for plaid. Plaid and fall go hand in hand, but forget the bold buffalo plaids from seasons past. This year, look for finer lines in chic neutrals that are more ladylike and less lumberjack. We love this blazer from Canadian design-duo, Smythe ($695 at Holt Renfrew).
jewel tones. We love this bold emerald-hued sweater from Wilfred ($165 at Aritzia) that combines a gemstone shade with another seasonal trend: the chunky, oversized knit for a fashion win-win. Pair it with skinnies and boots for a cosy, classic fall look.
animal instinct. Animal prints took to the runways for fall and our favourite retailers paid attention. We love this sweater dress ($203 at J. Crew) that’as perfect with heels for cocktails with the girls or dressed down with your fave sneakers and a leather moto jacket.
romantic blouse. Victorian-era romanticism is back in a big way this fall. Our top pick is this oh-so-lovely Needle & Thread blouse ($385 at The Bay). Pair it with boyfriend jeans and booties or up the ante with leather leggings and heels for date night.
slouch around. Boots are a cold-weather staple, and this season is all about a soft, slouchy silhouette. We love these Blondo boots ($221 at Nordstrom). The cognac colour is right on point for autumn and they’re waterproof to boot (see what we did there?)—something that will have any Canadian woman kicking up her heels.
