Who doesn’t crave more sun—especially in the middle of winter (hello, Raincouver)? With Solius you can get your recommended dose of vitamin D without harmful UVA rays in less than five minutes (you’ll feel more rested and happier, to boot!). In fact, with continuous use your body should reach the recommended D level that more than half the world’s population is lacking. With so many benefits to be had, we had to try it for ourselves.
Offered at two locations in B.C.’s Lower Mainland, Solius claims to help your body produce its own D in a way that’s far more effective than supplements (and, like we said, safer than the sun). The device looks like a large standup tanning bed; once inside, a touch-screen quiz helps you determine your skin type so you receive the optimal treatment needed for you. Then, strip down to your skivvies and socks (to absorb as much UVB as possible), don the provided disposable eyewear protector and wait for the lamps to turn on. A single treatment takes less than five minutes; if your skin experiences some redness due to the heat, it disappear quickly (and it isn’t harmful). Best of all, the whole process is made foolproof; you can even book your appointments (once a week is recommended) through the mobile app!
Stronger bones, better sleep, glowing skin and happier moods; think of it as sun soaking without any of the guilt. —Vicki Duong
