Let’s face it: shopping local feels good. Not only are you supporting the local economy and entrepreneurs, but we Lower Mainlanders are spoiled with a pretty amazing selection of homegrown goodies to choose from. These are some of our favorite local labels that are worth checking out, if you’re not already a regular. —Jeanine Gordon
jessica redditt design. This North Van-based women’s clothing line checks all the boxes when it comes to what Vancouverites crave: local, sustainable and stylish. We love the use of reclaimed, natural fabrics that are dyed using plant pigments, all of which culminates in a collection of chic, easy pieces. Our must-have pick? The Calico Charmeuse Palazzo pant ($198) in the dreamiest silk fabric.
brunette the label. If you feel passionate about supporting women in business, then Brunette the Label is the brand for you. For starters, the sweatshirts, jackets toques, and loungewear pieces are ultra-comfortable and locally designed. They’ve recently found mega success via a partnership with Juicy Couture, showing us just how bright Brunette’s future looks. We love the Big Sister hoodie ($99), proudly emblazoned with “Babes Supporting Babes” on the back. Now that’s a message we can really get behind.
leah alexandra. We won’t blame you if you immediately become hooked on layering delicate gold jewelry after visiting Leah Alexandra’s Gastown boutique. After all, that’s what she’s famous for (hello, Vogue feature), and it’s the reason A-list celebrities and locals alike are flocking to buy her pieces. We love the Deja ring ($165) for the perfect stacked look, and the whisper-thin Moonstone Threader earrings ($78).
