We asked design expert Jennifer Scott of A Good Chick to Know to share some of her spring style secrets—needless to say, her picks have put us in the mood for a major home makeover!
“I love the contrast between the vivacious vibe and muted palettes of spring; the subtle hints at a hue in this season’s pastel colourway are serene yet energizing, offering a fresh focus to décor,” Jennifer says. “While bright whites and hits of neon are my usual go-to, I’ve found myself surprisingly attracted to the beautifully restrained pastels that are emerging.”
Here are her top five favourite pastel pieces in decor right now:
> John Robshaw throw pillows in Peak and (pictured) Mali Lavender ($150 & $175 (US) at www.johnrobshaw.com): “It’s no secret that designers love throw pillows; in fact, we simply can’t do without them! So I couldn’t resist sharing my top choice pastel pillow as my first pick. The combo of the soft hand and understated saturation create a sense of comfort and allow the detail of the pattern to live in the forefront.”
< Holmegaard Future Glass set in Rose/Spring ($40 at http://royaldesign.com/ca): “Spring rejuvenates my desire to entertain, and having seasonally palette-paired glassware is a sure hit at any dinner soiree. The simple silhouette of these pretty little gems fit your grip perfectly and offer the uniqueness available only to hand-blown pieces.”
> Kallax Shelving Unit in light green ($49.99 at Ikea): “I was initially bummed to hear that the classic Expedit was being discontinued—until I saw the replacement, that is. The all-new Kallax is available in a surprisingly fresh set of colours, like pastel green and pink in a matte finish, and hot pink in a high gloss. Love at first sight.”
< Stella Curtain in Sugar Plum ($46-$81 at West Elm): “These window textiles offer the irresistible urge to touch them; the ultra soft natural linen, lightly dyed in an ombre range of pastel-to-saturated pinks, creates the perfect backdrop to any feminine abode.”
> Arakan Crewelwork Rug ($10-$448 at Anthropologie): “Global glamour meets the spring-inspired pastel palette! I love the hand-embroidered details that visually recreate the jungles of Burma while an organic flow to the imagery keeps the eye moving. I’m thinking a show-stopping foyer rug for an upcoming project.”
