Make Your Balcony More Fun This Summer (Win!)

We chatted with co-founder Ashley Boey to learn more. —Vita Daily

When and why did you launch View Balcony Bar? 

We launched Views Balcony Bar in 2020 right before the pandemic as a space-saving solution for outdoor furniture for apartments and condos. We had moved to a small apartment in Toronto and had an even smaller balcony and knew there had to be a better way to decorate and experience our balcony so that it was an extension of our home. We wanted to create a product that boasted functionality and beauty and also brought a fun and unique way to experience your outdoor space. 

What niche were/are you aiming to fill?

Our niche is apartment and condo balconies. We create and curate quality, functional, and beautiful furniture and home goods that are timeless but also easy to move to your next home. Our products are versatile enough to start off in your condo and fit in your next condo or apartment, or even in your new home! 

What products do you currently offer, and what makes them unique?

We currently offer our iconic ‘Views Balcony Bar’, an outdoor bar table that takes up zero floor space by attaching non-permanently to your railing. We’ve expanded into complementary products such as stackable bar stools, and railing planters, and are soon launching our first line of lounge chairs and space-conscious side tables. All of our products fit within our goal of creating quality, space-saving/functional and beautiful pieces. 

When it comes to backyard/patio makeovers, especially in small spaces, what are some of your top design/reno tips?  

1. Think about how you’re going to use your outdoor space before planning what goes in it. If you’re into hosting and entertaining, you’ll want some extra space for people to be able to mix and mingle while putting up some great drinks and food, our balcony bars are exceptional additions to your home for hosting! If you’re looking for something more cozy and private, think about creating a cozy nook with a few comfy chairs and a side table you can curl up in to watch the sunset. 
2. Maximize every square foot of your small patio, so space-saving items that take up zero floor space, or take up space vertically can really help make your space feel bigger.  
3. Add some greenery! An easy way to elevate your space is with a few patio-friendly plants. It brings a little more of the outdoors closer to home and creates a relaxing environment for you to unwind in. 
4. Show off your personality. And you can always mix and match materials and colours; there’s no wrong way to decorate, just what makes you feel happy!

Final, person question: what’s your favourite way to enjoy your own View Balcony Bar?

Either a quiet moment in the morning with a coffee before the start of a busy day, or unwinding at night with a glass of wine looking out at the views.
