A recently opened Mexican eatery is bringing a vivid new hue to Corktown.
Cocina Economica, the latest addition to Playa Cabana‘s foodie empire, serves up slow-cooked specialties inspired by Mexico’s own neighbourhood restos. Beyond classic faves like crunchy oven-baked tortillas, tangy ceviche and crisp tostadas topped with roasted chicken and braised chipotle onions, try the chile rellenos (a battered poblano pepper stuffed with panela cheese and poached in tomato salsa) or fall-off-the-bone pulled pork cooked in a peanut and chili mole sauce. Either way, wash your meal down with a refreshing (and potent!) margarita (or a selection from the resto’s ample mezcal collection) before biting into the Pastel Impossible: chocolate cake and flan cooked together and soaked in sweetened condensed milk.
