The three amigos behind Edmonton’s favourite taco shop, Tres Carnales, have cooked up another culinary venture, and we’re screaming gracias.
Rostizado (that’s “roasted” in Spanish) is an inviting new Mexican eatery and bar snugged onto the second floor of downtown’s 100-year-old Mercer Warehouse. After months of anticipation, the resto’s rotisserie has fired up and enticing smells of slow-roasted meats are wafting through the stairways like an invisible Siren luring us through its doors. During our first visit (there have been others since) we partook in rumoured faves like the just-right spicy Roasted Cauliflower ($13) and refreshing Jicama Salad ($15) of picked red onion, orange segments, cucumber, mint and lime juice.
The star of the feast was the Rosti-Pollo (quarter, $18), which slid straight off the rotisserie and onto our table: dry-rub chicken presented family style (a recurring Rostizado theme) on a wood slab with seasoned roasty potatoes and garnishes. To cap it off, tequila cocktails and churros.
Delicioso (that’s "delicious" in Spanish). —Janis Galloway
