Out of This World: Metropolis @ Metrotown Launches “Explore the Galaxy” Summer Celebration

Get ready to blast off into a universe of food, fun, and festivities as Metropolis at Metrotown transforms into a galaxy of entertainment for its highly anticipated Summer at the Met celebration. Running from June 16 to September 1, the “Explore the Galaxy” theme invites guests of all ages on a celestial journey packed with immersive displays, live entertainment, delicious eats, and space-themed surprises around every corner. And the best part? It’s all completely free.

Summer Market at the Met (July 3–6)

At the heart of the festivities is the Summer Market at the Met—a four-day outdoor celebration featuring more than 15 stellar food vendors. Fuel your journey with Taiwanese bites from Typhoon BBT Café, Japanese-style burgers from Wakwakburger, and authentic Mexican fare from Ponchos Tacos. Satisfy your sweet tooth with Filipino desserts from Cake It Easy or Asian-inspired scoops from Crema Ice Cream. And to cool down, swing by Chaiwagon for traditional Indian chai and mango shakes.

While you snack and sip, the atmosphere soars with live music, fire shows, juggling acts, and even dancing aliens. Kids will love the balloon twisting, face painting, and caricature artists, and photo ops abound with spacey characters like robots, aliens, and astronauts. Don’t miss the Roaming Selfie Ring Photo Booth, which lets you snap the perfect, ring-lit selfie and send it straight to your phone.

A major crowd-pleaser this year is SMASH!—a high-energy street performance where percussionists transform everyday objects like trash cans and water bottles into rhythmic masterpieces. It’s explosive, theatrical, and guaranteed to get your heart pounding.

Galactic Displays (June 16–September 1)

Throughout the shopping centre, galactic displays by Lazy Wizard Design create an immersive, photo-friendly space adventure. Expect 3D floor illusions, towering planets (including one that’s 4.5 metres wide), and solar system decals that invite you to hop from one celestial body to the next. Scan nearby QR codes for educational insights on space and otherworldly plant life—an easy way to sneak a little learning into your summer fun.

Summer Passport Program

Stop by Guest Services to pick up your Summer Passport and start collecting stamps as you explore the mall’s activations. Seven stamps earns you a surprise gift, and ten stamps gets you entered to win a $100 prize. It’s the perfect reason to see every corner of the galaxy.

Special Events

• Summer Dance Party (July 19, 12–2 PM): A roving DJ-led dance party featuring costumed astronauts and aliens handing out prizes while the beats drop throughout the mall.
• Starlab Pop-Up Planetarium (July 26–27, 12–3 PM): The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre brings an educational twist with 10-minute planetarium sessions packed with fascinating facts about space.
