When it comes to fragrance, few names carry the creative clout of Lev Glazman. The founder of The Maker—known for turning personal stories into evocative scents—has done it again with Revel, a sparkling new launch designed to capture the magic of life’s most meaningful celebrations. From weddings and birthdays to Pride and beyond, Revel blends juicy pineapple and lychee with romantic florals and a soft, lingering musk to turn fleeting moments into lasting memories. We caught up with Lev to learn more about the inspiration behind this joy-filled fragrance, which launched May 21 at Sephora Canada. —Noa Nichol
Revel is described as capturing the magic of life’s most unforgettable celebrations—what personal memories or milestones inspired this scent?
Revel was actually inspired by a real-life wedding! I had offered to create a custom perfume for a bride-to-be; something she’d remember forever and would bring an extra layer of happiness to an already-special day. I formulated a fruity, sparkling fragrance for her and she absolutely loved it, and through that process, Revel was born.
The fragrance opens with vibrant notes like pineapple and lychee and settles into soft sandalwood and velvet musk—how did you land on this particular composition, and what story were you hoping it would tell?
I wanted to capture the effervescence of Champagne—something you always see people toasting with at weddings—and still maintain that sensual base The Maker is known for. This was the first time I’ve worked with pineapple in a composition, and it really amplified the scent’s happy, warm, and almost addictive profile.
The name “Revel” evokes joy, freedom, and expression. How does that spirit align with The Maker’s overall brand ethos?
Revel fits in perfectly with The Maker’s ethos because the joyful moments it was inspired by really happen at the hotel all the time. It’s become this major hub for weddings and birthdays and proposals, so the property naturally has a very celebratory spirit. Revel was created to embody those magical experiences and memories.
You launched Revel just ahead of key celebration moments like wedding season and Pride—how important is cultural and emotional context when designing a fragrance?
It’s always important to us to stay ahead of the curve. But to me, perfume has always felt very transformative, and I wanted this one to bring happiness and a feeling of escape to people amidst all the heavy things happening in the world right now. When you put Revel on in the morning, I imagine it as an act of joy that stays with you throughout the day. It’s truly a feel-good fragrance that puts you in a positive state of mind.
What does it mean to see Revel launching at Sephora Canada, and how do you envision Canadian fragrance lovers embracing it?
I find the Canadian people love fragrance and are always open and responsive to new things, including fruity and effervescent scents like Revel. We’re so thrilled with our partnership with Sephora Canada, our presence in 10 flagship doors, and the opportunity to offer the market a fragrance that will mark occasions, celebrations, and happy times ahead.
