When Selena Gomez dropped the carousel of Instagram images from her and Benny Blanco’s wedding day this past Saturday, we can all agree everything she shared with us was so perfectly Selena. The photographs themselves (which included a collection of Poloroids) had a romantic and nostalgic mood to them which mirrored her refined bridal style.
Gomez’s hair was sculpted into a chic 1920s-inspired bob. Her makeup look featured a flawless, delicately blushed complexion, defined eyes and a dusty mauve lip, a look created by her longtime makeup artist and Hung Vanngo. The beauty look was of course a beautiful compliment to Gomez’s bridal fashion story which reportedly included a wardrobe of four custom wedding looks for the day created by Ralph Lauren.
The wedding dress playing a starring role in the glimpse she shared from her day was a wildly chic halter gown style which featured a draped bodice, floral detailing at the neckline, and a dramatic plunging back. The last time we saw a halter neckline wedding gown making major headlines was back in 2018 when Meghan Markle chose a sleek, silk-crepe design by Stella McCartney as her second royal wedding dress.
Though this wedding dress silhouette has been a favourite of bridal designers for years, it’s often passed over as a style choice because many think this this look might not be bridal enough.
“The halter neck gown is often overlooked, and I totally disagree with the thought many women have about this dress,” shares Angel Spendlove, creative director and co-founder of Canadian bridal line & For Love. “I think it’s a super flattering style. The neckline is gorgeous, it shows off your back, and you can do a fitted skirt or full ball skirt with it, so it has a lot of flexibility.”
Spendlove says this moment of old-world glamour that Gomez embraced on her wedding day feels fresh and very modern. “Benny Blanco posted that he married a ‘real life Disney princess’ and I couldn’t agree more,” Spendlove says. “Selena looks so elegant, and the way she styled her hair, her jewels, and went with a micro-bouquet of lily of the valley created a finished look where nothing was not overdone or overshadowed her.”
For bridal accessories, Gomez chose glittering diamond and platinum drop earrings from Tiffany & Co. to pair with her halter wedding gown. The day following the wedding, Blanco posted two images on Instagram of him and his bride which to date has been the only look we’ve had at another wedding dress worn by Gomez: a sheer lace gown topped with a trailing tulle veil. Blanco is wearing a custom Ralph Lauren tuxedo and some epic wedding bling.
In a close-up shot of the newlyweds’ holding hands the groom shows off not just his wedding ring, but also a chunky Ashoka trillion cut diamond tennis bracelet and matching Ashoka cut diamond Boutique Watch by Jacob & Co.
