Roots Reboots: Cabin Comfort Gets A Modern Glow In Toronto & Vancouver

Roots just gave its iconic cabin-cool aesthetic a serious style upgrade—and yes, it still feels quintessentially Canadian. The heritage brand has been quietly refreshing stores across the country this year, and the highlights are a brand-new Vancouver flagship on Robson Street and a pilot “Outpost” concept in Toronto’s Rosedale. Think warm wood, moss accents, tech-forward touches and community programming that turns shopping into an experience.

Step inside the Vancouver flagship at 929 Robson and you’ll immediately notice how Roots has leaned into light and texture. A preserved moss wall (plus a custom moss beaver sculpture—hello, logo IRL) anchors the space while a lightbox ceiling beams a commissioned image of Stanley Park overhead. Digital nods to the city—including holographic screens that riff on Vancouver’s outdoor culture—feel fresh without stealing the show from the clothes. The store also debuts The Vancouver Collection: city-exclusive pieces and limited edits curated for local tastes. Beyond merch, the Robson location aims to be a community hub, hosting events and initiatives that keep the neighborhood feeling connected.

Toronto’s new Roots Outpost (1096 Yonge Street) is a softer, story-forward counterpoint. The Rosedale pilot celebrates Roots’ history with archival black-and-white photos and heritage objects, balanced by contemporary Canadian art and warm finishes. It’s a deliberately intimate retail moment: vintage Roots pieces, carefully chosen local brands, and programming that leans into community and craft. The location is a meaningful return—Roots opened its first-ever store on Yonge Street in 1973—so this feels like a homecoming as much as a redesign.

“Our stores are more than destinations to shop, they are environments that bring our brand purpose to life,” says Meghan Roach, President & CEO of Roots. “Each space reflects our deep connection to nature, community, and craftsmanship. With these new and refreshed locations, we are inviting customers to rediscover the Roots brand.”

The refresh isn’t limited to big cities. Earlier relaunches in Mont-Tremblant and Vaughan Mills follow the same playbook: brighter, more immersive interiors, streamlined merchandising, and light wood finishes that echo the brand’s cabin heritage while accommodating modern retail tech.

What this all adds up to is a Roots that respects its past—leather goods, cozy knits, and that unmistakable beaver emblem—while nudging the brand forward for the lifestyle shopper who wants both comfort and design-minded detail. Whether you’re hunting a premium leather staple, a new-fave crewneck, or a locally curated gift, these refreshed spaces make the ritual of shopping feel thoughtful again.

Visit the new Robson Street flagship in Vancouver or the Roots Outpost on Yonge in Toronto to see the rework in person—and keep an eye out for local drops and community events at each location. Roots has returned to its roots, and it’s looking very good. —Noa Nichol
