Maguire x Simons: Fall Footwear Capsule

Two homegrown favourites team up—Maguire Shoes and Simons unveil a limited three-piece capsule designed in Montréal and crafted in Spain—available online now and in Simons stores starting Oct.17. In our Q&A, Myriam Belzile-Maguire walks us through the collection’s signature silhouettes—from the Navia kitten heel to the bold Feria ankle boot—her family-first design philosophy, and why this partnership feels like a full-circle moment for two Canadian, family-owned brands. What was the moment you both knew Simons was the perfect partner for a capsule—was it instinct, a shared aesthetic, or something that happened behind the scenes?

When we first joined Simons’ online platform, we saw an immediate connection; not just in sales, but in shared values. Both brands are family-owned and committed to making quality products more accessible. When our products performed so well online, it became clear there was potential for something bigger. Following some conversations between our teams, we thought an exclusive capsule that would be available coast to coast in their stores was the natural next step in our partnership.

The capsule centers on Navia, Feria, and Sarria—how did you land on these particular silhouettes as the essentials of a fall wardrobe?

Simons was looking to create a small but complete wardrobe of fall shoes, styles that can take you anywhere and are appropriate for how women really dress in fall. We ended up moving forward with a sleek kitten heel, a bold ankle boot and a statement-making high boot. 

You design in Montréal and make in Spain—what drew you to your Spanish ateliers, and how does that craftsmanship show up in the finished shoes?

Spain has a rich shoemaking heritage. While our atelier continues to use traditional techniques, they also embrace innovation and responsible production. Our Spanish partners offer the best quality-to-price ratio in Europe and can handle larger volumes than our smaller Italian factories, without sacrificing craftsmanship. This is evident in the refined construction, premium materials, and polished finish of each product.

Maguire is playful and modern while Simons is timeless—how did you balance those two voices in one cohesive collection?

Maguire brought the modern edge with sculptural heels, fresh proportions, a playful sense of texture, while Simons grounded the collection in timeless wearability. For this fall collection, we focused on essential and timeless colours, but we wouldn’t be opposed to introducing more bright colours if we did, say, a summer collection with them!

The collection uses luxe finishes like croc-embossed leather and suede—how do you think about material choices in terms of durability, seasonality, and sustainability?

With years of shoemaking experience, we’ve tested countless materials and always design with longevity in mind. This collaboration is no exception; every material comes from trusted tanneries known for their durability.

Accessibility is central to your brand mission. How did you translate Maguire’s direct-to-consumer ethos into a capsule that’s available at a national retailer like Simons?

While we continue to operate as a direct-to-consumer brand, and have no plans to change our business model, this capsule gave us the opportunity to scale production and reach more people. Partnering with Simons allows us to bring Maguire to a wider Canadian audience, while still upholding the transparency, quality, and customer connection that define our ethos.

Walk us through the wardrobe-system you run in your own stores—how did that retail philosophy influence the in-store presentation at Simons?

In our stores, we display one size per style so customers can easily try different options. We’d love to bring this concept to Simons locations nationwide in the future – but first, we’ll see how this first collaboration does! 

Were there design ideas or silhouettes that evolved specifically because of the collaboration with Simons—any “happy accidents” that surprised you?

One happy accident that comes to mind regards the Navia pump. The original design included a removable bow, but when our teams saw the pump without the bow, we realized it was perfect as is!

How do your Quebec roots and Montreal upbringing show up in the design DNA of this capsule?

Our Montréal roots shape everything we do – it’s a blend of practicality and creativity, cold weather and cultural warmth. Montreal’s spirit of contrast (classic yet bold, effortless yet experimental) shines through this capsule: shoes designed for busy days, nights out, and unpredictable seasons.

For shoppers ready to wear the collection now—what are your top styling tips for each shoe (Navia, Feria, Sarria) to make them instantly fall-ready and versatile?

All three styles are seasonless. You can wear them bare-legged, with pants, or with a skirt. We designed them to be versatile and compatible with almost any outfit, and we can’t wait to see how customers will make them their own!
