January and February aren’t just about resolutions—they’re prime time for transformation. At FORM Face and Body, winter marks a noticeable rise in patients planning confidence-boosting body contouring procedures, all with one goal in mind: feeling fully healed and summer-ready. With colder weather offering ideal recovery conditions—from easier compression wear to reduced sun exposure—this season has become the smart starting point for long-term results. We sat down with Dr. Ron Somogyi to talk about why winter is the unsung hero of body contouring, what patients should realistically expect, and how starting now can set the stage for a show-stopping summer debut. —Noa Nichol

Why do January and February consistently stand out as the most strategic months for patients considering body contouring—especially for those with summer confidence goals in mind?Maybe it’s

because they get gift cards over Christmas? Just kidding. January and February are ideal months in Canada for surgery because with the colder weather,  people spend more time at home. It also gives the perfect amount of time to be fully healed and ready to show off their best new version as the weather changes and summer comes.

Many patients feel discouraged when diet and exercise don’t deliver the results they expect. How do you help patients understand when body contouring is an appropriate next step—and when it’s not

This is a conversation I have with every patient. All of my patients want to do as much as they can in healthiest way possible. We always encourage this. The reality is that our bodies Don’t always respond the way we want and don’t respond uniformly. Stubborn areas of residual fat, even when we are at our ideal weight and health are the best areas to treat with surgery. Maybe more commonly, our area areas of loose skin or sagging. There is no amount of healthy lifestyle or gym activity that will make Loose skin tighten or saggy areas lift up.  For these areas, the surgery helps show off the underlying healthy results that you’ve already  achieved

Can you walk us through what “body contouring” actually means today, and how combining procedures can create more harmonious, natural-looking results?

Body contouring, in my mind, refers to tailoring what we see at the skin level to match what is underneath. When somebody has a generally healthy, fit physique, but overlying areas of residual fat or loose skin, tailoring these areas allows the beautiful shape underneath to be seen. This is the contouring.

Recovery is often the biggest concern. From compression garments to scar healing, why does winter offer such a significant advantage from a medical and lifestyle standpoint?

Agreed! Recovery and what we do before and after surgery is often as important or more important than the surgery itself. Often, the support or compression garments that we wear after surgery can make a significant difference in the speed of recovery and in the final results. Colder weather means bulky clothing and less sweating. Both of these features make it much easier to wear compression garments all day and even To feel and look completely natural in social settings

What mindset should patients have going into body contouring surgery to ensure they feel confident, informed, and emotionally prepared—not just physically ready?

I love it when patients feel like they’ve done everything that they can do To feel comfortable in their bodies and now have specific areas left over that bother them. Understanding that we, as surgeons, are just partners in helping them look the way they feel means that we will achieve our goal together in having a beautiful and healthy outside that matches a beautiful and healthy inside.
