THAT’S A WRAP

August 27, 2008

In honour of our houseguest from Mexico City, we decided to rustle up
some tacos
al pastor
for dinner.

Typically, wed be stuffing Old El Paso shells, but this time we pulled
out all the maracas, choosing fresh, warm corn tortillas from La
Tortilleria instead.

A new addition to Kensington Market, owners Xel Arvizu and Juan Roman
have been churning out tortillas all summer-long using a machine (the
only one in the city) that takes up half the shop and makes about 3,000
of them an hour.

We picked up a kilo ($3), freshly made and wrapped in a towel to keep
them soft and pliable.

And what did Jorge think?

Esta muy bueno.

Tip: If you dont want to make your own salsa verde try La Tortillerias
delicious sauce of jalapeños, cilantro, onions and tomatillio.

La Tortilleria, 68 Wales Ave., Toronto, 416-546-5516.
