family matters

February 12, 2014

We may not be able to get our baby to wave and our dog to pose on command, but we bet our Family Day itinerary is a lot more fun than tea with Charles and Camilla.

Royal FamilyFort Calgary
The Winter Carnival at Fort Calgary is free and full of indoor and outdoor activities, theatre performances, a museum treasure hun, crafts in a giant igloo, maple-syrup candy making and hay rides over to the skating rink in the East Village. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fort Calgary, 750 9 Ave. S.E., Calgary, 403-290-1875, www.fortcalgary.com

YYC Hot Chocolate Fest
We can’t think of a better way to spend Family Day then getting hopped-up on sugar with Calgary’s first Hot Chocolate Fest. Sign up for the month-long event online and then stroll around the city to visit one of the 15 vendors to try its version of the delicious treat. Don’t’ forget to vote for your fave. www.yychotchocolate.com

Family Quest at Heritage Park
As part of Gasoline Alley Museum’s Cars of the Big & Small Screen exhibit, families or groups work together to complete interactive challenges, like creating a storyboard or doing a screen test (maybe there’s a future Meryl Streep in the family!). Admission from $5 per person., www.heritagepark.ca
