Our Guide to WSSF

April 14, 2016

Looking to add some fun to your weekend with a bit of skiing, concerts, and art? Then the World Ski and Snowboard Festival Ultimate VIP Package is for you. Every year, Whistler hosts this festival which is 10 days of epic mountain celebration. This year the festival runs April 8 to 17 and includes free nightly music concerts boasting some of the most popular artists around, fashion shows and art shows showcasing local and international talent. And of course, what’s a festival without some friendly competition? There are snowboarding and skiing competitions, too, which bring out some of sports’ most revered athletes.

stay: For a truly ideal hotel location, stay at The Westin Resort and Spa just steps away from the base of Whistler Mountain and in the centre of the festival fun. Suites and rooms are located high above giving you surreal views of the gondola and mountains. Rooms are comfortable, spacious and even offer fully equipped kitchens decked out in wooden-inspired appliances for that true rustic feel. If you’re in need of some snow gear, The Westin Resort and Spa features an array of shops which are easily accessible from the village. There’s also a heated outdoor pool should you want to sneak in for a post-ski dip. The Westin Resort and Spa, Whistler, 4090 Whistler Way, Whistler, BC, www.westin.com/whistler

do: With a huge variety of activities to partake in, this package is perfect for those wanting to experience the festival full throttle without waiting in long lines. Part of the package perks is the VIP all-access pass to the events and parties happening all over Whistler. That means reserved seating and access to epic parties thrown at the Gibbons venues, including access to the fun Fido Dog house at the Longhorn Saloon and Grill. Seriously, this event drew quite the crowd. Also, because the snow is so fluffy right now, getting a morning ski in is the right choice to burn off your calories from the night before and start the day off right. www.whistler.com

savour: Whistler boasts some of the best dining around, with new eateries popping up all the time. For a refreshing salad, check out Basalt Wine + Salumeria which features European-style offerings and one of the nicest patios in the village complete with a fire pit for chillier nights. For a light Spanish-influenced dinner check out Bar Oso, and opt for the albacore tuna if you really want to awaken your senses with the marriage of tuna and avocado. The next day, check out The Westin Resort and Spa’s in-hotel dining experience at The Grill & Vine. In a rush to hit the slopes? No worries, grab a tomato mozzarella sandwich and a fruit smoothie to go!

sip: With Whistler famous for their growing bar scene, it’s easy to find yourself a refreshing drink after a long day of skiing. Try the Powder Day cocktail for a flavorful (and in our opinion, kind of healthy) ginger infused handcrafted cocktail with grass vodka and lemon at Bar Oso. Bar Oso, 150 – 4222 Village Sq, Whistler, 604-962-4540, www.baroso.ca
