Our recent experience at boutique Vancouver beauty clinic Touch of Joy brought some harsh truths about our skin to the surface—and, fortunately, a brand-new solution to help treat them.
The Pico Facial ($950) is a cutting-edge treatment that uses light-based tech for total skin revitalization—for us, that includes sun spots, melasma, acne scars and pores—while also tightening the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and stimulating collagen and elastin formation. Our session started with a gorgeous and soothing mini facial, expertly applied by Touch of Joy pro Camila. With our skin soft and soothed, it was time for the laser, which has been specially designed to penetrate through the first layers of the skin to treat the root of the problem—and leave a long-lasting solution. Despite some very minor tingling (our pain threshold is, admittedly, high, and the cold-air blaster we were given to aim at our skin helped heaps) we found this particular laser to be quite gentle, and the entire treatment (two passes around the face) extremely quick. Plus, unlike other lasers that use heat and can take as many as six treatments before results are noticeable, the Pico uses short bursts of highly focused energy and offers noticeable effects after a single treatment.
Finally, we were schooled on the best after-Pico care regime: products by Bend Beauty and Alumier. And the best part? Minimal downtime meant that our Tuesday appointment left us with a flawless face for an event the very next evening. Beautiful! —Noa Nichol
