May 20 we celebrate whisky! Whisky or whiskey is a type of distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains (which may be malted) are used for different varieties, including barley, corn, rye and wheat. Below, three of our faves. —Vita Daily
Dillon’s Rye Whisky: Crafted using 100 per cent Ontario rye (no barley, no wheat and no corn) with no flavourings and no colourings ever added, and aged in new Ontario oak, new American oak and first-fill bourbon casks, this is a truly grain-to-the-glass Rye Whisky. Take, for example, the 7 Year Old Single Malt Single Malt Mizunara Cask. A relentless search for the most flavourful oak in the world took Glendalough from its own wooded mountains in Wicklow to those in the volcanic north of Japan, Hokkaido, to find the most sought-after oak in the whiskey world. The whiskey is vivid, but delicate with seamless depth. It is vibrant, fruity, and floral on the nose, enjoying a luxuriously smooth mouthfeel with notes of dark chocolate orange, sandalwood and cinnamon synonymous with Mizunara whiskeys.
