5 Females Founders To Check Out @ Toronto’s The Laneway Pop-Up

November 14, 2023

Re-writing the script on holiday shopping this year, a collective of beauty and home care brands are popping up in Toronto, offering guests a place to shop with both intention and style. The Laneway, nestled just off Queen West (198 Walnut Avenue, Unit 6) is an ode to mindful gifting and sustainable living. From November 17 to December 17, experience a curated selection of local brands at the centre of social and environmental home and beauty. Included are ageless, versatile makeup essentials by 19/99 Beauty; transparent, low-ingredient skincare from Ember Wellness; luxurious concentrated hair and body care by Everist: clean, refillable candles by Everly; and refillable, counter-worthy home care by Guests on Earth. Each are female owned and operated and disruptors in their own right.

“We’re all working to change the narrative, that’s what brings us together” says Amanda Schuler, founder of Ember Wellness. “Our shared goal is to help bring people into a system of low-waste, mindful buying and gifting, which is better for people and the planet.”

The Laneway has teamed up with TerraCycle an organization tackling the elimination of waste through recycling and re-use solutions. Shoppers are encouraged to bring in  personal-care empties in exchange for credit. A bag of empties will get you $10 off a purchase of $50 or more on opening weekend.

Ultimately, the collective hopes to give Toronto shoppers alternatives to waste-building shopping habits. “The idea behind creating this pop-up is to allow people to take some time before the holiday rush to more thoughtfully purchase gifts, rather than hastily buying items at the last. Minute,” says Jackie Prince, co-founder, Guests On Earth

As an added bonus, opening weekend offers great programming to shop and get to know each brand:

  • Ember Wellness will offer 20-minute sculpt & glow facials on November 18 starting at 3 p.m.
  • 19/99 Beauty is doing mini makeovers November 18 from 3 to 6 p.m.
  • Everly Candles is demonstrating candle making on November 19 from 2 to 4 p.m.
  • Guests on Earth is presenting  Clean Home, Clear Head aromatherapy sessions November 19 from 3 to 5 p.m.
  • Everist Hair and Body Care is offering deep-conditioning hair treatments on November 19 from 12 to 2 p.m. —Lauren Walker-Lee
