Vicki’s January Beauty Faves

February 20, 2024

Was it just me or did January come and go in a snap? Maybe it was jumping back into the swing of things post holidays or an uncharacteristically warm start to the year here on the West Coast but January didn’t feel as gloomy as it normally would. Perhaps it was discovering so many new favourites to add to my beauty rotation that added to the excitement of the first month of the year. Discover them below! —Vicki Duong

conair double ceramic hot rollers. This is the year we’re saying au revoir to bad hair says and Conair makes it easy. These jumbo sized rollers ($36) add instant body and volume to tresses while the velvet flocking helps it grip to your hair. I love that they heat up in less than two minutes and the innovative heated core makes it easy to use without burning yourself.

u beauty the super tinted hydrator. One of my favourite moisturisers gets an upgrade in a big way. The UBeauty Super Hydrator ($108) now comes in flexible tinted shades that leave the perfect skin-but-better finish. It applies like a gel moisturiser with a skin tint finish giving you the benefits of skincare and none of the weight of foundation.

dermalogica pro-collagen banking serum. Did you know that maintaining collagen in your skin is easier than replenishing it? That’s why Dermalogica’s latest innovation, the Pro-Collagen Banking Serum ($125) aims to preserve collagen while also combating the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

charlotte tilbury hollywood beauty icon lipstick. Known for her coveted shades (Pillow Talk, anyone?) Charlotte Tilbury once again knocks it out of the park with her new Hollywood Beauty Icon lipsticks ($48). An homage to old Hollywood glamour, the new shades feature classic reds and pink. My personal fave is Hollywood Vixen, the quintessential blue-red that makes teeth appear brighter and whiter.

design me gloss me hydrating treatment mask. Fake the look of a high-end salon gloss treatment at home with this treatment mask ($30)  from Design Me. I love that it adds a natural looking shine to my locks without appearing greasy or oily or adding excess weight. Plus it restores elasticity to strengthen your hair! Win, win!

paula’s choice skin perfecting 6% mandelic acid + 2% lactic acid liquid exfoliant. Their number one best seller for good reason, Paula’s Choice is known for their BHA Liquid Exfoliant ($49) but did you know that they recently launched an AHA exfoliant ($53)? While BHA penetrates deeply into pores to unclog and smooth fine lines, AHA works on the skin surface to improve the skin barrier and dullness. Paired together you can guarantee yourself brighter and softer skin.

pixi beauty on-the-glow blush cheektone. Customise your rosy flush with the latest innovation from Pixi Beauty, a pH reactive blush ($24) suitable for cheeks or lips. In a convenient twist-up tube this unique blush reacts to your skin to provide a uniquely-you hue. Plus natural ingredients, such as fruit extracts and aloe vera are gentle on your skin and leaves a dewy finish.

garnier all-in-one micellar gentle peeling water. Double duty your skincare routine with this new Garnier Micellar Gentle Peeling Water ($10), an all in one cleanser that removes stubborn makeup while providing gentle cleansing. The Garnier micellar waters are consistently one of my favourite drugstore finds because of the budget-friendly price point, effectiveness and gentle formula.

brami skincare divine rose lip plumping balm. While it seems like there is an abundance of lip products on the market currently, that doesn’t mean they’re all created equally. I have been loving the Divine Rose Lip Plumping Balm ($65) from Canadian brand, Brahmi. The natural formula not only soothes and repairs even the driest lips but fills in fine lines making it ideal as a primer for lipstick if you’re looking to layer.

grown alchemist energize body cleanser & restorative body cream. One of my favourite ways to ensure that I smell good all day is to layer my scents. I start the process in the shower with the Grown Alchemist body cleanser ($38) and body cream ($59), two new additions to the brand that not only smell intoxicating but perform. The body cleanser is a lightweight gel that is mild on even your most sensitive bits while the body cream boasts plant-based ingredients that repair the skin’s barrier.
